Forums - Nintendo - New Super Mario Bros pushing limits of wii.

I am not buying it. Super Smash Bros can have online and the graphics and objects onscreen look more intensive to the processor than NSMB.

Still gonna get the game cause it looks pretty fun.

It was just a line, it's Nintendo's excuse for putting as little money and effort into a title with out losing sales...

I am still buying it, and it'll probably be worth it for single player alone (considering how much I love Mario games).

Why add a feature to a product if you do not have to?

You must be joking...

If you go back to the Nintendo conference discussion, you will find that I had a fit when people started comparing it to LBP.  Mario is nothing like LBP other than the camera position and the 4 players.

That being said, I do believe it.

Explain: Why would a company put a feature into a game when they know it will sell as much either way?

Or: Would you rather believe that the Wii really is being pushed to the limits here?

It's lose/lose but I prefer the first question myself for a couple of reasons.

1. Conduit is already doing way more.

2. Nintendo is full of smart business people.

What I'm saying is, there is no way that Nintendo is NOT putting effort into a Mario platformer.

Honestly? This pushing Wii limits?

No, unless they have a few threads calculating PI to 1 billion digits while the game runs. To be displayed as a reward for beating the game of course.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

That is some disappointing news to say the least. So is this the game that retailers were told to reserve space for?

This is such a lazy scam to push hardware in Japan.

It looks and plays exactly like the DS game. Why not put it on DS?

You´re right that it will probably sell bucketloads in Japan and push hardware as well, at least I hope it will!

I love 2d and we haven´t had a 2d sidescrolling mario for a homeconslole in almost 20 years! Why can´t we be happy about that we finally will be getting a 2d retro Mario for Wii?

I think it´s fantastic, almost too good to be true. It seems like 2d is coming back, it´s just so sad that some think that games should go to Wiiware or something just because it´s not 3d. 2dgames deserve to be advertised and get huge sales. I know I´m happy about this anyway, it´s a frickin miracle. A 2d mario for a homeconsole, first since Super Mario World. Now let´s bring back some true 2d Metroid

Thank you! Its probably my most-anticipated game announced at E3... You would think Nintendo fans would be ecstatic about this game but it just goes to show that some people like to complain no matter what.

God.. it's like some of you people don't have friends to play this with..

Some of us have buy lives and jobs and getting 4 friends together to play a game is impractical to put it lightly, online solves all this.

Nintendo markets to children and housewives though, so I guess they have more time spare.

That, to me, is a sign of the sorry state of life at this time.  You can't meet with actually friends EVER, so you have to play over the Internet.  It used to be friends are people you met with in real life.

If my friends and I have free time we go out to the pub or something, we don't sit indoors and play video games.  Sitting indoors playing games is for when we don't have time to group up.   Unfortunaly the Wii time and time again keeps letting us down.

Yep. We can see all Ninty fans crying... LOL

They already informed you, but I'll do it again:

[7:30] Apparently Miyamoto's comments were not entirely translated.

[7:31] What he really said was that hardware has limited all developers since the 8-bit days, and it's a constant struggle for everyone.

[7:31] With that footnote, Miyamoto urges atendees to play Wii Sports Resort.

Just one source -> http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6210517/next-wii-zelda-targeted-for-2010

Check for more if you don't believe it

How surprising that Matt neglected to mention this part....  *rolls eyes*

So this whole statement is just all taken out of context. The OP should have at least listed the source he heard it from. I highly doubted the statement and I guess it has been proven to be taken out of context.

@ tarheel91: Seriously, you think there's some kind of magic behind this game that makes it not possible?

The best reason I've read so far is the2bears' post, which makes a lot of sense... but I'm still not entirely certain it's not possible.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, though.  There's so many things that have to be considered, and we (save Twesterm) know none of them.  I'm sick of armchair programmers acting like they're actually knowledgeable on the subject.

What I'm saying is, there is no way that Nintendo is NOT putting effort into a Mario platformer.

I think the problem is that we are using two different meanings of the word effort.  I am using effort to describe the amount of quantifiable labor, ultimately money.  You are using effort to explore the qualitative aspects of labor, including the talent, creativity, and design.

You are not wrong. (I am so much better behaved than last week.) It's just I wasn't clear.  I am talking about money.  Nintendo wants to put as little money into development to make a passable product (3-5 million seller).

Why make 250 million dollars off of a game when you can make 251.3 million dollars off of a game... I am not saying the game is going to be bad, I am just saying it probably comes down to money.  I do not believe that the Wii can not handle 4 player online side-scrolling.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
