Forums - Nintendo - (Rumor) Nintendo Strikes Back .... after the E3

Only a Rumor but seems like Nintendo is holding a "second" press show after the E3, but only in Japan.

Rumor has it that Nintendo will be holding a big press conference here in Japan immediately following E3.

Actually, this isn't really a rumor. The source is the Sinobi blog -- you know, the blog that always gives out the super early sales information on Fridays. It seems to be a pretty reliable source.

The press conference is mentioned as an aside as the writer discusses how absolutely atrocious the Japanese game market was in May. The writer suggests that Nintendo could end up showing its summer lineup.

That summer lineup will presumably be lead by Wii Sports Resort.

The blog post was made on the 27th, by the way. I really need a new "Two Days Late" tag for all the stories I write two days late.

How? This gives them a chance to announce more Western-esque announcements at E3, then Japanese-esque announcements later. It's a double win.

Exactly.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Really...to me that says " we might not be able to hold are own, so lets do a separate on so the focus is only one us"

This could be a bad omen about their E3 conference.

But if they announce games right after E3, then that ultimately doesn't matter to me.

That's so strange. I thought the Japanese paid as much attention to E3 as we do to TGS (i.e. a lot). So what's the point?

:O i hope is true

It doesnt seem weird to you at all, come on, isnt it what TGS is for?

This is just a bad rumor, seriously.

Nintendo don't go to TGS, remember? Last year they had their October conference but not at TGS. I'm guessing they moved it from October (so bickering doesn't last for months in case the normal conference is sucky) so they can make good announcements soon.

Le's hope you are right.

Remembering also that third party sales in the West are much larger than they are in Japan. Japanese gamers buy more Nintendo software, and seemingly buy consoles bcoz of it, and this is why arguably the Wii drop in Japan is more significant than is possible in the West. Iwata said this in the FY results speech.

I would hesitate to guess that this fact alone means they are launches for the same Nintendo games. Perhaps it is a WSR launch instead but we'll see.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
