It has just surpassed Metal Gear Solid 4
GT5P: 680,265
MGS4: 674,428
The actual GT5 game is going to be insane if a demo did this good.
(I know some of it is because of the bundle, but still)

I predict that GT5 will sell about 1-2M first week in Japan

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.
Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

So roughly 1/3 of the userbase will buy the game? I'll take you up on that bet. I beleive in the power of the GT series but I always like a good bet. What are the conditions?

FootballFan - "GT has never been bigger than Halo. Now do a comparison between the two attach ratios and watch GT get stomped by Halo. Reach will sell 5 million more than GT5. Quote me on it."

I predict that GT 5 will sell 800k-1.2 million in Japan in its lifetime.

Let us bet. It would be fun!

I believe that Final Fantasy XIII will come out first, and so massively increase the user base in Japan. That will mean that after FF XIII's 1m+ launch, GT 5 can easily sell 800k-1m
Let's see what previous games did:
Gran Turismo: 2.55 million
Gran Turismo 2: 1.71 million
Gran Turismo 3: 1.89 million
Gran Turismo 4 Prologue: 0.79 million
Gran Turismo 4: 1.16 million
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: 0.68 million
I think GT5 will just about cross a million in Japan, looking at the prologues for GT4 and GT5. GT5 was on the market for way longer, on a console with no other GT game, and it's still below GT4P. GT is still huge, but it's not that massive in Japan anymore.
Yep Gran Turismo has become smaller in NA and EU however it keeps on growing in EU. However it has been a long long long time since the last flagship GT game released and a lot could have changed in that time.
My guess is that GT5 will do 1.0 million LTD in Japan and at least 4 million in EU. These PS3 Slim rumours are getting pretty serious now so my guess is that Sony will release the slim with GT5 = system seller.
It must be noted that Prologue has reached something like 0.4 million without bundles and the bundles stopped pretty quickly so it should de a million.

If they did launch the slim with GT in Europe, and with Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, that is those 2 areas sown up. The big question comes in what do they have in America, a mix of GT, Uncharted, MAG, Heavy Rain and Ratchet might do the trick, but God of War 3 would certainly be a good boost
So if they managed to launch the slim in Septmber-November, with FF XIII, GT 5, GoW 3, U2: AT, R&C: ACiT, HR and MAG they will have a very good holiday season. Of course this relies on them somehow getting God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5 out for this Christmas, which is quite unlikely in my opinion
