Forums - Sales Discussion - Heavenly Sword - 77.445 first week- flop or not flop sales?

The next few months will be critical for sony, A high buget and good reveiewed game like Heveanly Sword dont take off with high sales number. If the rest of high profile games coming out for this year having the same faith, it'll be a huge alarm call to those developers that dedicated all their high profile games on the ps3 and give other systems bullshit side quest as their so called multiplaform support. If this happens I'll be the first one to clap my hand on.

not that I dont like playstation(owned ps1,ps2,psp), its sony's arrogant trying to force a $600 trojan horse down my throat, and I pitty on those developer that support this bullshit price point thinking we'll spend the extra $$$ because their game is exclusive on ps3 only.

Remember that Metroid Prime 3 and Bioshock were both on shelves for 4 days and still sold well over 3 times as many units as Heavenly Sword has ...

For a highly anticipated game, often cited as a major reason why people will buy a PS3, (roughly) 75,000 units sold in its first day would be a disapointment

I havent been on these forums long enough but you probably predicted MotorStorm and Resistance to flop..they didnt.

Hence my long called vision

Metal Gear Solid 4 will NOT go to the Playstation 3

http://www.popzart.com/?page=view&topic=267

I only posted this on Popzart in December of 2006 but I saw this a whole year ago and posted that in a forum long before this article.

It's simply the business mechanics that brought about this vision.

PS3 owners should not get so overly defensive about these kinds of things. Just enjoy your games whether it's Top 10 or Top 1000. But people make these remarks for a reason. Many of them lived through consoles that lost support in the middle of a generation. Most likely even owned those consoles. It's just a deja vu feeling, that's all.

Words from the Official VGChartz Idiot

WE ARE THE NATION...OF DOMINATION!

I think HS would have been better off keeping extras like " the Making of HS" or the anime episodes in the game, making those unlockables. Instead they gave those away for free on PSN. The replay value would have been a bit higher if they kept those extras in game.

"I don't believe anyone walks into a game store with $600 in their pocket and wonders what console to buy." -President of Worldwide studios Phil Harrison "Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise, and a very good business compared with ours, because it's cheaper." -Sony chairman and CEO Howard Stringer

The sales of this game won't be high because most people aren't going to spend $60 on a game that is 6 maybe 7 hours long when they can rent it at a cheaper price. I'm sure the rentals for this game are much higher then the sales for it.

"I could make Halo. It's not that I couldn't design that game. It's just that I choose not to. One thing about my game design is that I never try to look for what people want and then try to make that game design." - Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto

Ya know, Johnny ... I'll give it to you, you definitely stick to your guns. But ...

MGS4, no matter how bady the PS3 could do, will be on the PS3.

I will take my crow like a man if it gets cancelled.

So, I expect the same from you!

Tbh, I don't think that Heavenly Sword was that well-known outside of the hardcore gaming community, and I'm sure many hardcore gamers passed this game up for now because of it's length. I know I did. I still plan to pick it up when it drops to $40 or so, but I'm not getting it anytime soon. I'm sure the TV commercials will get other, less-knowledgeable ps3 owners to go pick up the game, so this game could have somewhat long legs, especially going into the holiday season like this.

Also, the sales could've been somewhat on the low side because, as Hus said, the game had only been out for three days in most places because of the shipping delay.

To me it seems low, what are your thoughts? Just dont tell me that game was released on 12th and numbers are for up to 15th. Same things were said for Lair and Warhawk.

Its just another nail in the PS3 coffin. These numbers are simply catastrophic for Sony's most heavily advertised game for the PS3 yet. This title was supposed to keep PS3 afloat through the continued game drought ahead for that system and it has disappointed just like all the other games that were supposed to "save" the PS3.

It won't be long until people are talking about Sony's exit from the console business, something that would have been completely unthinkable even a year ago.

I wonder if theres room for all the unsold copies of Heavenly Sword and PS3s in that New Mexican landfill...

keep dreaming damkira? 2008 is Sony's coming. We know they need $399, and familiar franchises. ms is coffined in japan. K eep dreaming !

These sales could only be called a flop if we had the shipped numbers to compare them to... Do we? Either way, this is very dissapointing for a first week. Another dissapointing performance following in the bitter wake of Lair.

If a game does poorly, people are going to talk about it, this isn't anywhere near as bad as the flak LAIR got so Hus and Leo-J you two are really overreacting to the negative fallout here. You act like this everytime anything less than favorable is said about anything Sony and cry wolf that its Nintendo fanboys on the march again. Sony is not in a good position right now, and bad things are happening on a regular basis for them, that's a fact, people aren't automatically fanboys for simply acknowledging this or sharing their thoughts on the matter. You two really need to chill out and exercise a little maturity.
