Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What should Wii do to maintain momentum?

Focus on the surprise element. Continue to make the games that focus on the core as well as the "non" gamer. Not ever make a system that cost more than $250.00 USD.

The biggest thing is to continue doing what they, as a company, think should be done. By listening to us complaining gamers, we would have seen another console that focused on stagnated game play.

I do agree Nintendo should be putting more money into collaborative projects with third party developers like they did with Resident Evil 4. I have no clue if that is what they are currently doing or not, but at this point it seems they're trying to court developers on a level playing field rather than handing out money.

Don't forget who carried you through you tough times release more hardcore games and release them in more genres. GT GTA Halo sales show plain as day that the return on that investment can very huge.

I didn't read this thread, and I didn't pay attention to what anybody else said. I just have one thing to say.

Nintendo doesn't need to keep up the momentum.

The Wii has already sold somewhere in the range of 11.5 to 12 million consoles. By its one-year-anniversary date, it will have sold approximately 13 to 14 million consoles. It's already halfway to Gamecube lifetime sales. If it loses its momentum and dies down to the same market that the Gamecube had (because I can guarantee it'll at least do that much), it'll easily still sell 35 million consoles in its lifetime.

35 million is an enormous thing, especially compared to Gamecube's life sales.

Thus, it (theoretically) may slow enormously. It may (theoretically) end up taking third. But it'll still be a gigantic success for Nintendo, smashing both of its previous consoles in sales totals.

Needless to say, I don't believe that's how things will go. That's the worst case scenario.

Actually it was the Nintendo core games (Mario, Zelda, Metroid) that carried Nintendo through the tough times. Though I agree we definitly need more hardcore titles.

I see some huge games coming out in 2008 for the wii to keep it's momentum. While not all confirmed, they are shoe-ins for the year. Mario Cart, Mario Golf, Animal Crossing, and my personal favorite Pikmin. Not ALL of these games may get you off personally, but they are guaranteed AAA titles to the gaming community as a whole, which is bigger now than just the "gamer" of yesteryear. Wii will do fine.

Nintendo doesn't need to do anything. There's nothing that can go wrong.

Baiting commentary isn't nice.

Sell it cheaper! :)

I'd buy a Wii if they reduced the price. I think that the $415 that we have to pay for a console here in Sweden is too much

At least 62 million Wii sold by the end of 09 or my mario avatar will get sad

i know.. make a real console with next-gen graphics and a better online service... that would do it
