I normally refrain from this, but ARE YOU A FUCKING RETARD??? Read the damn post and try to COMPREHEND it. I did NOT ever state that PS3 outsold 360 for the entire year of 2008. I stated that PS3 outsold it for a period of time BEFORE September 2008 before 360 dropped to $199 "and 360 profited in 2008" Yeah NO SHIT. I also CLEARLY stated in my post that the 360 profited $267 million in 2008.
You start your post off with: "Look, how wrong you are:" , then you reiterate the same facts that I posted??? What the hell are you smoking tonite??? |
360 outsold PS3 AND MADE $$$ in 2008 so OBVIOUSLY THEY CAN OUTSELL PS3 AND MAKE MONEY.
But war... war never changes

Profit, in this thread, seems to be referring to a profit in their gaming division during the PS3 era. Not a profit on each console sold from some future point forward. It also refers, I assume, to things like software sales in its game industry, verses expendatures. I think Sony is taking huge losses right now in every category.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
Neither 360 or PS3 is making much profit from the consoles themselves. Such has been true for a while. Yet this is not as strange as many would make it seem. PS2 was sold initially at a loss, spending almost all the money made from the PS1 console sales.
The thing is, these companies usually eat the console costs, only to get it back from Game sales. Not to mention, MS also has the sales of XboxLive subscriptions that is highly profitable. That is where the real money is.

mztazmz said:UPDATE: FYI to those of you posting that PS3 is also selling at a loss. At launch, the PS3 was taking a $240 loss per console. Last December(2 years later) PS3 was selling at a $45 loss per console http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/4340.html.Today. at the current rate of reduced manufacturing costs, they are probably selling at break-even or maybe a little profit. Sorry to rain on your hate parade

two questions though.
1. In Sony's last quater earning call, Sony stated they are still selling at loss. There is still no evidence that PS3 is breaking even or selling with a profit at this moment. It's just your guess.
2. You are assuming every PS3 sold is a $399 SKU.
I guess we'll know more on May 14th.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
This thread have covered a lot of arguments against the op, but let's just say it is right (I really don't think so.) What is Microsoft going to pick? Yep, outsell PS3.

Except the 360 IS making a profit and outselling the PS3 this year!! :P
Long Live SHIO!
one of the previous posters noted briefly about the recession and exchange rates. To share what this means for example in 2006 when the PS3 was released $1 USD = about 115 Yen. If you multiply the sale price of the system at launch $600 by 115 Yen it equals about 69,000 Yen. Yes you may say who cares but the Yen has gained significantly in value to the US Dollar and in the past 6 months has averaged about $1 = 95 Yen. This is bad for Japanese companies because when they send the money back it buys much less of their currency. If the PS3 still sold at that $600 PS3 from 3 years ago it would now be equal to 57,000 which devalues it by about 18%. (by the way this is hurting Nintendo as well)
Now take in that $400 PS3 it is only worth 38,000 YEN which is close to half the money Sony was bringing in at launch.
