Forums - Gaming - What exactly was wrong with Final Fantasy 12?

There was nothing wrong with it. Fanboys on this site are just weird.

FF12 was pretty good. I preferred the combat system immensely than the random battles and loved having much more control over your characters.

The short story was a bit of a let down, but the game had a lot of stuff to do after you finished it (more than any FF game I can think of) and that coupled with the vastly improved combat system still made it a great game. Not one of the best of the series for sure, but still a 5 star game.

This game looks amazing, and for FFXIII SE should mix in the good parts in FF12 while having CG like graphics and a much better story. And sexy girls. Should be spectacular.

nobuo didn't do the music and tetsuya didn't do the design thats it

Death is nothing to fear

All death means is a new destination

The story wasn't impressive and after I set a few decent gambits, all that I really got to do was walk around...

That's pretty much it. Other than that, it's ok.

4 ≈ One

I don´t know.I played it for a couple of hours and I thought it was an alright game.

2 things in my opinion that didn't give it a real "final fantasy" feel.

1- The main character was forgettable and didn't have much charisma.

2- There was no love element to the story. There was not Cloud/Aeirth, Squall/Rinoa, Zidane/Garnet, Tidus/Yuna.

What about the love triangle of Vaan, Ashe, and Penelo?

One of the things about FF12 which players may not realize is just how steeped in history the storyline is. No, not Ivalice history, but actual, bedrock events of human history -- the history of Empires, nobility, capitalism, slavery, emancipation, industrialization, national revolution, Wall Street neoliberalism, market fundamentalism, etc. If you're not aware of that history or haven't read widely, many of the references won't make sense.

No it was just boring (my opinion though).

I'm assuming you find the ToV storyline better....

I found ToV complex, but complex in a bad way. As in they had a low budget or little time so they just thought of a bunch of additional plot elements that worked out badly. In FFXII it was simpler, but I found myself more immersed in the world. The ToV story was so ridiculously stupid that I couldn't help but look at it from a distance.

You know what happens when you assume homey.  Just kidding.  It's all a matter of opinion though.

I mean I would take the story for ToV over FFXII any day but really for me it's hard to compare.  The tales games have more of a cartoon style to their stories.  On the other hand Final Fantasy games tend to be a little more serious.

For me, ToV had points that weren't that great but points that actually were pretty good storytelling.  On the other hand, FF XII didn't do anything wrong it just didn't do anything to make it memorable.  There was just something missing.

The battle system was fun only until I had perfected the gambit system, then it felt boring. The story was pretty disappointing. It wasn't bad, it just lacked depth. The same goes for the characters.

That's about it. It's not much but the game as a whole was affected too much to be considered very good.

Good for you.
