One of the things about FF12 which players may not realize is just how steeped in history the storyline is. No, not Ivalice history, but actual, bedrock events of human history -- the history of Empires, nobility, capitalism, slavery, emancipation, industrialization, national revolution, Wall Street neoliberalism, market fundamentalism, etc. If you're not aware of that history or haven't read widely, many of the references won't make sense.

No it was just boring (my opinion though).

I'm assuming you find the ToV storyline better....

I found ToV complex, but complex in a bad way. As in they had a low budget or little time so they just thought of a bunch of additional plot elements that worked out badly. In FFXII it was simpler, but I found myself more immersed in the world. The ToV story was so ridiculously stupid that I couldn't help but look at it from a distance.

You know what happens when you assume homey.  Just kidding.  It's all a matter of opinion though.

I mean I would take the story for ToV over FFXII any day but really for me it's hard to compare.  The tales games have more of a cartoon style to their stories.  On the other hand Final Fantasy games tend to be a little more serious.

For me, ToV had points that weren't that great but points that actually were pretty good storytelling.  On the other hand, FF XII didn't do anything wrong it just didn't do anything to make it memorable.  There was just something missing.
