Forums - Gaming - When does "Hyping" become "Over-hyping?"

Mr Khan said:

Over-hyping, as said before, is just when hype gets completely out of control, to the point where the game in question absolutely cannot deliver. This occurred for GTAIV and Halo 3, as well as possibly for Red Steel, and definitely for LBP and Killzone 2

LBP scored a 95... how did it not deliver?

KZ2 scored a 92... same question.

Halo 3 scored a 94 and people still play it online to this day.

Only games I see on that list that released and later on recieved a lot of hate from it's userbase were Redsteel and more notably GTA IV.

Unless of course you are talking about sales which in that case you remove GTA IV and Halo 3 from your list. Although hype most of the time is in regards to quality and not necessarily sales.

That goes to prove even more Halo3 overhype

And Compare the Meerkat > Ay other ad... ever!

 You lost me there.

Notice how few people are calling GT5 overhyped and yet Killzone 2 is considered overhyped? A game is considered over-hyped pre-release when the game itself would struggle to live up to the hype thats been placed on it.

Tease.

English (terrible) ads

Ah so that's what it means.

I always knew Capt. Kirk was overhyped.

Captain Kirk is never overhyped. He always delivers.

As I said before, I personally don't consider saying
"Game X will be amazing" hyping, I consider that opinion.

If some random jo public says GT5 will have 10,000 cars...that's some random jo public making a fool of themselves especially when Polyphony said it'll only have 600.

IMO real hype should only come from actual game developers not random Jo Public.

E.g MAG is boasting 256 players at a time, not "Grafix" that'll make Killzone2/Gears2/Crysis cry like little girls. Yet everyone seem to be focusing on that why?
