why even bother putting it out in 2009? so many games come out around christmas why not wait til march(side note all god of war games have come out in march).plus you get more time to work on the game.Dont get me wrong if god of war 3 come out this year i would be so happy but the ps3 don't need it this year.with games like uncharted 2,heavy rain,MW2 all coming out around christmas time i think its better to just wait.

God of War III will be more popular than Uncharted 2, MAG, and Heavy Rain. Sony wants to have a monster holiday season and move as much hardware as possible. I think they will go ALL OUT with GoW3, with the already announced Collectors Edition, as well as a possible bundle too. GoW3 Ps3 bundle with the Omega symbol engraved on the console. I believe they did something similar with MGS4 in Europe.

God of War III is the biggest 1st party exclusive they have on the horizon, after GT5 ofcourse. Why WOULDNT they put it out during the holiday season? If anything, they should push back Heavy Rain.... a game that looks nice but will lack mass appeal and sales. That game will definately get lost in the shuffle if it comes out during holiday season.

Cause it isn't finished by then?

It would seem stange that Sony would allow God of War III's release to slip past the lucrative holiday season, but we need to keep in mind that Sony is going to need a big exclusive in Q1 of next year. It's also worth mentioning that competition is fierce during Q4 and for relatively big games that will sell millions regardless, it's sometimes better to release them during the slower seasons where competition is non-existant. Just look at Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 for reference. Sony also gets the bonus of not having it compete with the release of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 which caters to the exact same market. Pretty much how I predict Sony's lineup for the fiscal year is as follows:

September 2009
Uncharted 2: Among Theives
White Knight Chronicles

October 2009
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
M.A.G.
Demon's Souls

November 2009
Heavy Rain
EyePet

December 2009
Gran Turismo 5

March 2010
God of War III

God of War III was announced for financial year '09. That goes from March '09 to March '10. I'm predicting a March 2010 release date.

The real question is when will GT5 hit? Will it make it out by December? Well they release it in Spring? Will that be too close to God of War?

From what I've seen, GT5's release date is a bit more up in teeh air than GoWIII's

How would YOU or anyone else know how far along they are in development? We've seen demos and trailers so it's not like the Team ICO project, which has shown nothing so far.

December 2009
Gran Turismo 5

March 2010
God of War III

I was thinking it would be the other way around. GoW in 09, GT5 in early 2010.

If it does work out that way, Sony can't go wrong. Personally I think GOW for the holidays is better because it appeals to a younger audience who would want it as a Xmas present, whereas GT5 is for the hardcore car enthusiasts who will buy it no matter what date it comes on... less likely to be a xmas present type of game.

Either way, cant go wrong. Drop one killer app before Xmas, and another shortly after to get the new year rolling.

gt5 is bigger than GoW will ever be. therefor if you have a choice between the two for the holiday spot you go with gt5. and have GoW continue the momentum in the following months. besides look at the release dates of GoW1/2 both in march, look for GoW3 to continue that pattern.

it won't be released in FY09 that's for sure - considering how it looks right now developer have long way to go before releasing it.

Absolutely not.

Aside from the fact that the holiday season is completely full, the game won't be ready by November/December. Throw in the fact that every God of War has been released in March, and you've got a solid formula for a March 2010 title.

And by the way, when they said "2009", they meant Fiscal Year 2009, which is April 2009 to March 2010. Uncharted 2, A Crack In Time, Heavy Rain and MAG will all make it out this holiday, along with FF13 in Japan, with God of War III following in March 2010, and Quantum Theory in June or so.

EDIT: Damn, Gran Turismo 5 is this year as well. If I were Sony, I would structure it like this:

Uncharted 2- September

A Crack In Time: Early October

MAG: mid-October (You don't want an FPS anywhere near Modern Warfare 2)

Heavy Rain: mid-November

Gran Turismo 5: Late November-Early December. Worldwide release, preferably.
