Forums - Sony - Sony shifting more ressources to PSP development?

Okay, from the recent announcements, it's pretty clear that Sony are putting more weight behind the PSP now than before.

Do you think this is because the PS3 hasn't taken off like they hoped it would? Or is it just because it has been neglected for too long, and Sony are getting back to it?

- I think it's a bit of both. Sony realize that there is still a lot of potential for good sales on the PSP, so they are getting back to it, after backing the PS3 so much.

Are Sony just evening things out now after the PS3 has gotten its hold on software, and going back to the PSP, or are they pushing more PSP games because they are cheaper to make?

- I also think they want to make the PSP more popular with a lot of new software so they can make some more money off of it, since the PS3 business hasn't exactly gone according to plan.

Do you think Sony are going to push all this new software with a PSP pricecut?

- Yes, I think the PSP will see a pricecut prior to the holidays.

I agree with your analysis, but it could also be because of the restructuring.

They are merging SCE with Vaio and Walkman, perhaps they think they can get some synergies between the PSP and those. There are also rumours that Ericsson wants to get out of the Sony Ericsson venture, and there's obviously potential for a phone+PSP mix.

I think that they are pushing it more, but they are not shifting first party studios to PSP development at all, they are just encouraging 3rd parties, and hopefully it will pick up software sales

I think we will definitely see a new model at E3, and I hope that there is some combination with SE and Walkman, the new Idou phone and X series walkmans have OLED touchscreens, so hopefully that will come to PSP for multimedia functions, and maybe mini games (like iPod touch)

why would they do that though

PSP isn't a heavy software seller....so I don't think SONY are doing this

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

nah more like they just learnt how to do stuff for both. I think its the fact that all the resources that went into the ps2 the last years and finaly going into the ps3 and psp

One dosent have to exclude the other. And are these resources just focusing on software or are they focusing on the hardware development? As the PSP is interactive with the PS3 i dont see anything wrong with further developing the PSP.

But im not all that into portable gaming devices.

How bout some game? My PSP is pretty dusty...

I agree, its not like they are going to announce Motorstorm, Little big planet, Jak and daxter, heck a new socom for the PSP, and get third parties to make a portable Rockband, or get Assassins Creed to the system.. it would make no sense with these sales.. they'd have to make a hannah montana psp which is very unlikely, no they would have to bundle rockband and assassins creed in order to get some hardware moving.. even if all of that happens they would need to announce double the amount of the games in e3 than all those stated above, we know that wont happen.

I think the only thing that's been moved are PS2 resources to PSP.... not match has weakened when it comes to the PS3...

It's about time too. They should have focused on the PSP from the start.
