Wow, you think a ps3 price cut wont do anything? If they do they will probably outsell the Wii for a month or two *atleast.

Not with a 50 dollar price cut. To outsell the Wii, the sales would have to double if not triple.

Then can the both of us agree that it will outsell the 360?

Lets see.

PS3 currently at 21.62 million
Averaging 167K consoles per week and 15 weeks have passed (Jan 3 through April 11).
Lets assume last 8 weeks of year are very much inflated for holidays. (Weeks ending November 14th through end of the year).
This leaves 29 weeks of sales at around 167K.
Last year PS3 did 2.8 million the final 8 weeks of the year. Lets give it a 50% boost for argument sake.

21.62M
4.83M (29 weeks at 167K)
4.2M (Final 8 weeks)
30.65 end of 2009

360 currently at 29.78 million
Averaging 200K consoles per week and 15 weeks have passed (Jan 3 through April 11).
Lets assume last 8 weeks of year are very much inflated for holidays. (Weeks ending November 14th through end of the year).
This leaves 29 weeks of sales at around 200K.
Last year 360 did 4.7 million the final 8 weeks of the year. Lets assume that the 360 sales are flat.

29.78M
5.8M (29 weeks at 200K)
4.7M (Final 8 weeks)
40.280 end of 2009

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I can agree with your numbers if PS3 gets a price cut.

4 ≈ One

Just look below in my sig :)

@rafichamp:

This is a pretty nutty prediction.

By the fall the gap between the PS3 and the 360 will be 9M-10M units based on the current rates.

And somehow, just by a modest price cut of $50 the PS3 will close the 10M units gap to 5M units withing 3 months?

The PS3 will have to sell about 9M units during those 3 months to do it. I.e. about 3.5 times more than it sold last year during the same period.

Do you really beleve a $50 price cut will yield 350% increase in sales?

Come on...

Prediction made on 11/1/2008:

Q4 2008: 27M xbox LTD, 20M PS3 LTD . 2009 sales: 11M xbox,  9M PS3

Not with a $50 pricecut. Certainly not enough to make a difference.
