no one is questioning that fact you said odst would sell less. Everyone is questioning you're claim that people won't buy it cuz they were disappointed with halo 3.

How many buyers did you talk to to come to that conclusion? |
It's the same deal with GTA4. Many were dissapointed with it.

If so many people were dissapointed with GTA4 then why did the expansion Lost and the Damned outsell Killzone 2? And that is an expansion requireing GTA4 and is download only. ODST does not require Halo3 and does not have to be downloaded.

You just brought up an example that proves my point. No matter how well an expansion sells, it's never going to be even close to its original, even if it does sell incredibly well (which I keep saying tht ODST will). Since it does not have to be downloaded, it will surely sell proportionately more than Lost and Damned, but honestly, do you think anyone who didn't buy Halo 3 will buy its expansion?
@Kowenicki: Sorry, I forgot to mention that yes, I will indeed be buying it, because I love H3 and the Halo lore.
@ymeaga1n: You're taking what I'm saying to the extreme. Just like with any game, some people (not necessarily a huge amount, but substantial) were disappointed with H3. Some people who DID like it bought it only for multiplayer, and some of those probably won't want to pay 50% of the price again just for a few new maps. Sorry for the confusion, as we seem to agree that it won't sell much
To be clear, I think it will probably be a great game, and I'm really looking forward to it.
well , after Halo Wars alot of people seem to forgot the series and moved on Call of Duty.
it probably will be a multi million seller but wont top Halo 3
There's alot of things going against this game outdoing Halo 3's opening , the fact that it isn't a sequel , the economic enviroment and increased competition from the call of duty series.
I still think it'll sell excellently ,but a Halo 3 beater it is not.
No, no. That is certainly not going to happen. I believe that Halo 3: ODST will open with sales in the region of 1.8 - 2.2 million.

Yeah, sure, it's forgotten. Let's forget about the fact that it was the most played game in 2007, 2008 and also the most played game last week, and that over 1 million unique gamers play it every day.
Not saying ODST will break 3's record, but it will definitely sell in the region of 2 million in its first week alone, if it doesn't flop. And to say that Halo is forgotten...
| BenVTrigger said: Currently Halo 3 has the record for largest 1st week sales for a console exclusive game. (yes I know GTA on PS2 actually sold about 100,000 more copies its first week but Halo 3 generated more money). My question is simple. Now that the 360 has a much larger install base and seeing that Halo 3 still has amazing legs its obvious Halo fans are still wanting more. Is it possible for ODST to break Halo 3's record? Personally I think it has a very good shot as long as the marketing for it is as excellent as it was for the original Halo 3. |
Actually, Halo probably didn't generate more money than GTA when you adjust for inflation, especially being as Halo 3 was bundled and GTA on the PS2 wasn't, if I remember correctly.
