@Kantor

Thanks for your constructive feedback.

After having read radha's review, I really sincerely honestly believe that I covered everything in that review but more succinctly and really no offense intended, with more structure and better English. In my books, thats the definition of 'well-written' which is what people give thumbs up for. Its not all about the length.

Granted, I did miss a few finer details like certain combat options because I played the game some months back, and I respect your rating, but just giving my opinion on your opinion.

If anyone wants to chip in on this, these are the reviews Im talking about, happy to hear from anyone else.

I didn't say it was a better review (English isn't his first language, by the way), I said it better justified the score he gave it.

@Kantor

No, you said you gave a thumbs up because its well-written. And I believe mine is, its just not long or detailed enough for you. I say this because that review, to me, was so similar to mine in terms of the key points - repetitiveness, emptiness, lack of characterization/personality, easy, not compelled to replay, and lack of potential.

As I said no offense intended to radha and I respect your decision, but this does show that unless you write a very long review with full justification that you arent going to get a thumbs up from most people. And my opinion on the English was not meant to be derogatory but rather a comparison to mine in terms of being 'well-written'.

Lets move on :) and keep in mind not everyone can afford to spend hours on these.

Hmmm... now I'm debating which of my reviews to submit the application with.

EDIT: On that note, why can't staff write user reviews? They're still users. And many of them don't get to review the games they want to, because they're taken. I think every member (with more than 100 posts) should be free to write a user review)

Naz made the call, but I guess some contributors are worried that other contributors would undercut their review. The reasoning as I understand it is that reviewer 'A' gives a game a 92, then reviewer 'B' thinks his review is wrong and gives the game a 85. You then end up with people saying the staff can't agree or whatever.

^Basically, yes. I think a review needs to be a certain length to warrant a thumbs up. It doesn't need to be the length of Khuutra's God Hand review, but make it reasonable.

Just done reviews of Killzone 2 and HAWX

I really think 5-7 paragraphs stating your opinion of the good and bad points and a description of the game (with the addition of screenshots to break the wall of words) is reasonable, which is honestly the limit of the amount of time I can spend on each anyway. To me whats not reasonable is a few lines summary.

Its good that people arent thumbs-down-ing because of length though.

I've updated with a second review. So far I've done Fallout 3 and Tales of Vesperia.
I'll be updating with a review every Monday and Friday! Be sure to check it out!

I'm serious about the review score being included in the review, though. Not just in the summary.
