hmmm...interesting indeed

say CGI you think Quantic dreams is trying uncanny valley as a new way of scaring ppl on video games...I mean it's said in there that robots that moves exacly like humans scare a person more that when they see a mechanical looking robot?

Actually, what Quantic Dream said they were trying to accomplish was eliminating The Uncanny Valley altogether. Unfortunately, the PS3 might not provide quite the technology for such a feat.

I definitely wouldn't think it is possible to achieve in only 2 years of development on the PS3.  If the PS3 isn't enough for that task, the PS4 (if it harbours the 36 core version of the Cell) will take care of it.

Arg! Comprehensive reading ! My sworn enemy.

This may sound like hyperbole, but I truly don't believe it's too farfetched to envision The Matrix or a Star Trek holodeck within the very near future. Not in the next ten years, of course, but most of us will be alive to see it.

Once cold fusion becomes a reality, just about anything will be possible in a relatively short period of time.

I have been a sort of backseat observer/studier of the Uncanny Valley effect going on over the years of gaming and I too have a strong opinion that many of the games that are coming out these days are doing themselves a great disservice by trying to go the 'realism' route. Not so much based on their aesthetics, but moreso focusing on trying to make all the outwards graphics look 'perfect' without fixing the more important things. Namely how character models move, facial expressions, how a character model interacts with the environment, etc.

In this way, many 'lesser' titles (and even 2D games) are miles ahead of these 100 Million dollar hyped graphical 'masterpieces'. A character may have the most realistic looking textures ever placed onto the most amazing and fluid animation for a 3D model yet. He may look EXACTLY like the model in a cutscene. However, if he walks around at 120 FPS and acts like he's a Ballerina on PCP, then what have you really made? A VERY beautiful and costly doll.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I've been reading up on the subject ever since the first Final Fantasy movie came out, the whole concept of rendering fully realistic character models is very exciting!

Cool Article.

It explains why I prefer the graphics of games like WoW, Valkyria Chronicles or Team Fortress 2 compared to games which are much more realistic.

CGI-Quality: Thought you might like these (although you've probably come across them at some point :))

I've known about that 2nd video for a while now. Daniel Floyd (Kirithem) is amazing. You should check out his other 'lecture' videos. In regards to the Uncanny Valley, I'll agree that Heavy Rain is probably the closest we'll probably come this console generation. I really enjoyed the article.
