Forums - Gaming - Why Wii Hate?

Because it's cool and clever to be a Nintendo hater on the web, that's why and it's like that since the N64 days. Hating the Wii is another 'cool and clever' way to be to follow the majority behaviour. If the Wii were made by Microsoft or Sony (mainly), everyone would love it, but it's from Nintendo...

There's just as much if not more hate for Microsoft on the web by people that think they're "cool and clever".

True, but not on the same level as Nintendo hate.

I think it is more like that some people consider not liking wii games as hating the wii.. or any comment that could even be considered negative towards wii is automatically hatred.

I agree.  If you go into a Wii thread and point out bad graphics you're a graphics whore and a "Wii Hater".  If you go into a HD thread and complain about gamepads you're just making an observation.  If you complain about Wii casual games you're an elitist snob and a "Wii Hater".  If you complain about HD hardcore games in general you're just making a personal observation.

Both the Wii and HD consoles are improvements on the previous generation of consoles but people on each side that try to belittle or simply don't prefer the other's games and consoles are treated very differently.

Great post

People hate it because it's popular, bottom line. Console fanboys are the equivalent of those annoying indie kids who only listen to "real" music. I'm glad there's a console that doesn't pander to the typical male 18-34 crowd.

 What he said

I'm a girl.

The ratio of male to female on this site is such that we assume everyone is male unless clearly shown otherwise (avatar, signature, etc.). But if you get to be well known, which you could do, then everyone will know by heart.

Oh, I know. It's the same way on Kotaku and GameFaqs. I just felt the need to clarify.

i dont hate any console in general... what some times happens is that wii lovers as xbox360 lovers and ps3 lovers come down to saying that their console is the best thing after the coming of god to earth... and what happens is that people have a tendency to disagree... i dont say my ps3 is best then other... just have the tendency to disagree with who says their console is better than anything and says that i am a jack ass for buying the console that is in last... people should just buy their favorite one and leave others with their choices...

you do know that the majority of the site is composed of nintendo fanboys right? there's more love for wii than any other system, not everyone loves the wii, just deal with that.

I believe this was proven otherwise, that the majority of people here are PS3 owners. I remember a couple polls last year showing that.

Maybe he was referring to quality rather than quantity?

But in all seriousness yes, I believe you are correct about that.

to bad it can never be that way...

gamers IMO are the most dissatisfied people and the most nerdy (passionate) , so they need the feel to hate on other things.

like i said before, i dont hate the wii i think its a disappointment.

I don't there is any real logical reason to "hate" the Wii. I think many are just disappointed the games currently comming out aren't really aimed at the traditional gaming market. Nintendo haven't realeased on of their top tier games for a long while and most 3rd-party efforts are pretty lame (except maybe for Sega).

It must also be somewhat disheartening for certain developers to see games they've poured there heart and soul into sell worse then shovelware. However, this is how it is.

I suppose it's like being a film buff (except we're game buffs) and then being asked to compare Shawshank Redemption to XXX. XXX is fun and can be watched and enjoyed by many, but Shawshank is long and brilliant but you have to be in the right frame of mind to watch it. The pleb on the street may prefer XXX but any one who's serious about film will tell you Shawshank is the better film.

I used to hate the playstation and PS2. But now that I look back at it, it was probably only because they were more successful than my N64 and Gamecube. I suppose I was a typical teenage fanboy. It was also because I perceived hostility from the Sony crown dismissing my choice of console as "childish" which I believed was unwarranted.

Now as I look back I have a huge amount of respect for Sony. I can appreciate that the PS and PS2 were great systems and did great things for the gaming market, expanding it into a wider demographic. I think that in the future, people who bash the Wii might feel the same way looking back.

When I went to Video Games Live last year I felt that behind the "console wars" pretty much everyone was united in their love of gaming. Perhaps all it needs is a common enemy to bring everyone together! If tomorrow some politician launched a massive attack on videogames as a whole, I think many people who are superficially wii haters would unite with the wii crowd in a situation like this. They'd probably shout "You can't just declare that video games are all unhealthy, just look at wii fit!" or "You can't say video games are all targetted at violent 12-30 year old men, just look at nintendogs!".

Let's not forget that the wii was, for the most part, the brainchild of Shigeru Miyamoto. And I challenge anyone who calls themselves a gamer to say that the entire industry doesn't owe one heck of a lot to this one man. Whether or not you're into his games, he really deserves your respect. That's surely acknowledged by everyone, isn't it?

P.S. I own a 360 and love playing loads of non-nintendo games too. Just to be clear!
