Wii will never pass PS2 sales nor gain over 50% market share.

When do you expect the Wii to begin tracking below the PS2?

I meant lifetime sales.  You know that.  I think it sales will start to decline yearly and it won't have the lifespan the PS2 has.

Oh, I understand what you mean, no worries. I mean - right now Wii is tracking about 20 million above the PS2 if we align their launches. When do you expect it to fall below the PS2, if they're aligned?

See I'm thinking that the Wii might start to drop like a rock at some point simply because it's essentially running Xbox graphics and is the only system to not be in HD.  (In before 'Graphics don't matter' etc).  The PS2 while extremely popular is now limping to the finish line and when it was released it had great technology in it.  It's very possible that the Wii will age just like fine wine, though I think it's also possible that it ages like milk left on the counter.

I guess time will tell.  The numbers certainly favor the Wii right now but I just feel that the Wii will get old faster than previous consoles have.   And if Nintendo tries to market or build off the success of the Wii with a Wii HD or something to that effect.  They will cut the sales of the Wii off at it's legs essentially.

If I knew things like this I would be rich.  I think they will be an ok year this year, about the same as last year. Then start to decline pretty fast after that.  As for a date I'll bitch out on that.  i gotta get some sleep anyhow.

there left many years for say something. I really hope Wii win.

LoL, Khuutra, excellent questions. I am not laughing at you, but I am laughin at some of the responses you've received. It seems more like wishful thinking to me "Well Wii won't win because...um I don't want it to"

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Hopefully the PS2.

Judging by profit, Wii already won.

Sony themselves said 140 million will be shipped by the end of 2009. The number sold to consumers is much lower.

Wikipedia =/= fact.

No.  Wikipedia has nothing to do with that. Let me quote from http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/1c46ad2e-5678-11dd-8686-000077b07658.html?nclick_check=1, which was posted on July 20, 2008:

Sony told those attending the video game industry’s E3 convention last week that sales of its original PlayStation, launched in 1994, had reached 102m units and the PlayStation 2 console had now passed 140m worldwide in its ninth year on sale.

note they are referring to Sony's E3 2008 presentations. That being said, I think that current actual PS2 sales of 130-135 million are a reasonable estimate as I cannot imagine that any retailer would want to have piles of decade-old electronics lying around. I could be wrong though.

The problem with that is it was disproved a long time ago.... Sony's own website showing recent retail shipments, and older "production" shipments (includes replaced consoles and other consoles not yet sold to retail) added up to just over 130 million at that time.

So it was a mistake by the mouth of whichever Sony employeee... he in fact meant to say 130 million, not 140 million.

Even so it is still a flawed number to use, because it includes any consoles Sony may have sent out as replacements to broken PS2s from 2000-2006.

I'd prefer to See PS2 win.
