If the Wii lasts as long as the PS2, then it will win. But I don't think any console this generation will last as long as the PS2, and so while I think the Wii will get enough sales to scare the pants off the fratcore, it won't quite beat out the PS2.

A shame, that.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Interesting that so many people say "hopefully PS2" etc. Even from a console neutral perspective you should be hoping for a current generation console to outsell the last, otherwise the games industry may be stagnating.

if the wii still sold 9 year like the ps2 wii will win
i think the ps2 still the most console selling



PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Everyone is also bringing up an excuse that Nintendo's next console will automatically kill Wii sales, despite no evidence of this ever happening before among Nintendo's consoles.  Even the Gamecube moved a few units after the release of the Wii.

Only if the Wii and it's other console are at similar price levels. Historically, the winner of the last generation continues to sell fairly well even as the next generation has begun.

And the PS2 is still selling very well no matter what you guys think. And no doubt the wii will top it one day, the same with the DS. The Wii is the "IT" thing, something the PS2 never had, all it had was the best games line up ever.

Dude, you have issues!  No one said the PS2 hasn't sold well.  No one hates the PS2.  We're just saying that the Wii will outsell it.  How you could interpret any other meaning from what is being said is beyond me.

If it's simple logic, why are we even entertaining the thought of Nintendo releasing a successor sooner than later anyways!?  The Wii hardware was outdated when it launched.  So why would it matter now or even a few years from now?

Oh don't get me wrong.  I agree that Nintendo should sit on the Wii money pot as long as possible.   Then again at some point,  I think they will hit a wall.  I mean the Wii is essentially what in power?  Xboxish?   Basically using technology that was newer in consoles 7 years ago?   Like I've said,  it could age like a fine wine or it could age overnight.   Time will certainly tell. 

I don't see Nintendo taking it off the market,  although I could see Nintendo coming out with essentially an HD Wii with similar controls and getting a headstart on their competitors.

Your problem is that you're projecting your own values onto the general populace, when in truth the general populace simply doesn't share your values, as shown by the fact that many consoles with poor graphics compared to their contemporaries have won generations and continued to sell for years after.
