It seems we have gone off topic, and are now on gun control, so I will throw in my 2c. The Constitution gives us the right to bare arms so we can rise up against an unjust Government. I always hate the argument "No one need an automatic weapon to hunt". We are given the right so we can hunt, we are given the right so we can kill people if need be.

The founding fathers knew the nature of man far better then we do. They knew that if left unchecked, men in power would do unjust things.

So until you change the constitution to say we don't have the right to upraise against an unjust government, I should be afforded any weapon I feel I need.

The founding fathers were half right. Men in power have destroyed our country. Giving us the right to bare arms did nothing to stop them.

Is that what they mean by "field stripping"?

You're new, so you obviously have not seen many of my posts.

I have a learning disability, so most of the worst you see will either be outright spelled wrong, or spelled right, but the wrong word.

The people I argue with the most never really make fun of it, for two reasons. One is they recognize it's not a reflection of my ability to form a cohesive argument, and two it just shows poor taste.

My apologies, I just go straight for the obvious joke.

The army is made up of the people ;). By the time it came to that, there would not be much army.

Exactly, so how exactly will government take over without the army?

It's not government that needs to take over, it's the people who need to take over government.

I am not suggesting we are there yet, but as out founders predicted, that day will come. When it does, weapons will be needed.

That's exactly what I'm asking. Withuot the army, why would we need to even put an effort in taking over the government? They won't be able to resist without the army itself, which as you pointed out, is made of people.

Because the government itself grows to powerful. Not that they will do anything by force.

For example, and I am not saying they will do this, but what if Congress passed a law that said any business that turns a profit over 5 million dollars will be taken over by the government. It goes to the President, and he signs it. Then the supreme court upholds it.

If that happened, it would be time to overthrow the government.

So... Where exactly do the guns come in during that overthrowing?

Hate doing this but I'm still interested. I wanna know just why you need guns to overthrow the government.

Wow, that was amazing! I rarely find something I disagree with so much!

I live in Denmark, a very socialist country. Even our liberals are socialists by american standards. I would never, ever want to live in a country with a rule that even slightly resembled that.

We pay very high taxes (~50% on average) and there is a 25% tax on all wares bought in the country. This money goes to paying our all our welfare. Free healthcare, education and support for those in society who need it.

And despite all these high taxes, I would never want to be without them. It's not without reason that Denmark has been the happiest country in the world for the past 30 years or so. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/02/14/60minutes/main3833797.shtml

Of course, I'm not here to tell you what to believe, we live in a democracy after all! But I can't help but wonder why in the world you would remove a basic freedom such as freedom of religion?

This. The same thing goes for the European Union in general. A world without social democracy would be a terrible world in my opinion. Europe wouldn't feel like my home without social democracy, without everyone's right to not only pursuit hapiness but to live a healthy life without being scared of losing everything (which basically means their job in today's times). I live in a country that is mainly christian but I'd still give Cem Özdemir (who is a muslim) my vote if he was to candidate for the job of our foreign minister in 2013 and our next foreign minister is most likely going to be a homosexual.

Despite living in a country that strongly supports social democracy I'm a free person. I didn't need a rich father to go to university, my friends accept that I don't believe in god and my chancellor had the balls to monish the pope when he tried to get a group of Holocaust-deniers back into the catholic church.

I live in a union of countries with big cultural heritages, which not only opened their markets to each other but also opened their borders for free movement of people. Our governments are having way more influence than the american one but if we don't like what they're doing, well... we elect a new one. Isn't that how democracy works? A strong government isn't going to harm anyone as long as it isn't a corrupt one because it was elected by the people.

Stop generalizing things. I know the US is in a different situation than Europe but this demonizing of everything that even remotely touches social democracy or socialism is scary to say the least.

Overthrowing the government?

Is the US some kind of dictatorship in disguise? I mean, is your government working against you or something?

Every army gives it's men small arms. If a million people turned on the US with guns, don't you think that's a far better fighting force then a million without them?

You can't have it both ways. Say weapons are so dangerous they need to be taken away, and then say they are useless in a fight.

To overthrow a government with the current military capabilties, I think we would need something better than AR-15s. We'd need stingers, rpgs, claymores, m-249s, body armor etc. Stingers are what 'won' it for the mujahideen.

I live in Sweden, and we are even more socialist than Denmark, and we pay even higher taxes (~55%). And I hate it.

The nanny state regulates everything and decides over peoples heads what's best for them, steals their money and gives it to all kinds of socialist projects.

That's the whole point. If they don't have guns why do you have guns to begin with?
