Wii HD is almost as stupid as the rumour about a PS3 without blu-ray.

Now stop predicting it.

lol
Your prediction will fail. Epicly.
E3 will be all about the Wii, with some random DS stuffs.
Wii motion plus + Wii Sports Resort, Zelda Wii (we can dream), some new Mario games, some more party games, something to do with Wii Fit.
No mension of Wii HD until at least 2011-2012. Its simply doing too well.

@BTFeather

You mean you thought gaming just emerged from nowhere, perfectly suited for what it's on? Oh no no no no no, gaming has a long history of borrowing from other technologies and making them their own.

To wit: the original arcade hit, Pong, utilized standard computer hardware of the era with a program already put on it, and a pair of dials you could get pretty much anywhere for controllers. The original model for the gaming joystick was that of aircraft flight sticks. The D-pad is very reminiscent of a computer keyboard having 4 separate keys for movement instead of a joystick. Analog control sticks are again a throwback to aircraft flight sticks, as well as to trackballs in the way they're utilized as thumb-operated devices. The Wii Remote's motion-tracking is done with just a standard accelerometer like you see used in most laptops, and its pointer uses a common infrared camera. The Balance Board is basically two Japanese-style bathroom scales. And that's not even getting into the consoles themselves, whose hardware is by and large just modified PC hardware specifically tailored to gaming needs, but still very much derived from PC spec.

Consoles do not exist in a vacuum. "Emerging technologies" refers to things not even a part of what we consider console-related technology just yet. And if Nintendo's decisions in recent years are any indicator, they're looking more outside of what's being used already for consoles than within to figure out what to transform into gaming material next.

THERE WILL NOT BE A Wii HD!!!!

I will forgive you Carl though as with your 2011-2012 statement I have to assume by Wii HD you actually mean the next Nintendo console, rather than an upgraded Wii... What I will say though is that I am not sure Nintendo will be keeping the "Wii" name next gen.... and they certainly won't just call it Wii HD.

BTFeather however seems to truely believe there is going to be a Wii that is in no way different to the current one except for higher resolution output, it is however a useless plan, because being able to output in the higher resolution means less power for the actual graphical environments so the games would look noticably worse.

No mams.... U totally suck at predicting stuffs. They just announced the Space problem solution in the wii.... and u think they are coming with a new console??????

You really havent thought your prediction through, so I will enter the evidence you forgot about.

1. The Wii is extremely successful both hardware and software wise, and therefore introducing a new platform would prematurely kill the Wii's success. (Also it is the fastest selling console ever)
2. It has been said that Nintendo is considering RAISING the price in Europe (or just UK?) because they are not happy with how much they are making there.

Now those are two major points you've forgotten about. Do you really think they'd announce a Wii HD now?

No they are not, it's absurd and would be a foolish business move.

I think this demonstrates that a lot of people don't understand Nintendo's strategy about releasing information about games ...

There are two important things to consider:

  1. Nintendo is trying not to release information about a game years before they release it, probably because they think it hurts game sales.
  2. Nintendo is very careful about targeting their message to the audience they have.

When you consider how quickly information becomes wide spread and obsolete in the internet era, along with how anticipation of an upcomming game can prevent people from buying a game that is already on the market, point 1 should be fairly easy to understand (whether you like it or not).

Point #2 is probably more important to this discussion, and Nintendo seemed to be very careful to talk to Game Developers at the Game Developers Conference ... While countless companies will demonstrate impressive videos of games/demos to show off their great middleware or a new graphical technique, Nintendo seemed very focused on showing off how to make games that are of a more reliable (higher) quality at a more reliable (lower) cost.

With that said, Nintendo will release the Wii MotionPlus and give it (at least) 12 months before they would ever consider hinting about a new console ... If Wii MotionPlus is as successful as I suspect it will be, I wouldn't expect an announcement of a WiiHD until E3 2011

It would be REALLY smart for Nintendo to launch Wii HD now.  They'd put out a box that's HD-ready, perhaps as powerful as 360 and could still be $250.  Keep the Wiimotes, all the peripherals still work, and everything keeps going just as it was.

They'd take a hit in their net profit per console for now, but they'd add 6 years of viability to Wii right now, when Wii is at its apex, and they'd steal PS360's graphical thunder.  WiiHD could still see the flood of casual titles, but additionally a number of higher-powered offerings.

The key would be to treat it like PSP-3000.  This isn't a new console; it isn't Wii 2.  It's just that Wii now supports HD, and some future HD games may not work with older units.  This is basically the SAME thing they did with DSi.  It would work.

@LHWB

You seem to have missed the point: the Wii has no need for any sort of "upgrade", it's selling quite well as it is. And any upgrade it will receive, as per Blue Ocean Strategy, will be geared towards getting more non-gamers into the mix, not towards claiming a bigger share of the incumbent market.
