I don't know why, since I think all three are awesome.

I can't believe this isn't getting through to people: those statements aren't mutually exclusive. Okami on the PS2 HAD to have lost a whole hell of a lot of money. They were trying to position it as a multi-million seller and put the money into it that would support those designs but it failed miserably. It was such a bad, bad loser that it lead to Clover's demise. But porting it to the Wii was undoubtedly cheap, and bound to make money as its own project.
Also, none of you know how much money VJ cost and what was expected of it. That cartoon probably came at a cost to Capcom and its failure to drive game sales was a severe blow, and the fact of the matter is that lots of games that lose money still get sequels. Most game companies operate on the assumption that you have to devote a lot of money to create a franchise, but not as much to continue it. The first game probably lost a good deal of money but showed enough promise to continue, then the next two games were bad and continued the losing streak. That's why you're not going to see another VJ game anytime soon if ever. If it was a success, like so many of you seem to think, why isn't there a new game on the horizon? RE5 just came out and they've already mentioned 6, MM games come out so fast it's impossible to keep track of them all, where's any mention at all of VJ? It died because they never found a way to make money off of it, and throwing more into the furnace was a bad idea.
You do not have the right to never be offended.
| flagship said: The wonderful thing about ports of old games is that any loss in initial game development has already been written off. Think of it this way: - Okami sold terribly on the GC and lost us a couple million dollars. - The port to Wii of Okami was very cheap to make and produced a profit far beyond the cost of porting it over. |
GC ? , it was on PS2 , it was never on GC.
Even though flagship had the wrong system, he still had the right idea. The original release of the game, on PS2, sold terribly compared to expectations. It never came anywhere close to what Capcom thought it'd do.

Capcom needs a definitive vision, that's the problem. Their strategy reeks of schizophrenia, which isn't a case of actual psychosis, but internal conflict
They need to get their shit together.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
We already knew Okami sold well on the Wii. Last I heard it was close to 300k. The only one saying it didn't do well is Sven on the Capcom forums. And we all know he's full of shit.
Is capcom hiring PR guys from the GOP?
