Forums - Gaming - Turn-based RPG or Action RPG

I like both, but I prefer action, games like kingdom hearts are awesome.

I like me some good action systems lately. Probably because i've been on a FPS kick, it just caries over to my RPGs. Turn based games have seemed really outdated lately. Fighting just doesn't work that way and I like my games to be somewhat realistic.

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

Turn-based. Especially when there is a timer element on the turn and not just a rote pattern (can anybody say Chrono Trigger).

Also, I prefer that there are not random enemies (can anybody say Chrono Trigger).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Turn based would be the better choice.

Well that's exactly what "Action based" is, atleast that's what they are to me.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Without a doubt action-RPGs. Traditional turn-based RPGs are incredibly boring to me. If they are strategy RPGs, that's a different story (I love stuff like Shining Force and Fire Emblem, for example).

I don't know why people on here are ragging on "button mashing" in action-RPGs. Sometimes this is true, sometimes not. A well-made game doesn't let you win this way. Try just button-mashing in Secret of Mana, for example. Plus, turn-based RPGs oftentimes require no skill at all since you can just level grind until you can easily beat enemies, or even just put the game on auto-attack (how incredibly dull!).

Secret of Mana is kinda turn based when it comes to regular fighting. The fact that your attack is worthless if you press the attack button before your meter reaches 100% means you have to wait your turn to hit. Magic casting on the other hand is not turn based which is why every boss in the game is incredibly easy. You just have to analyse him and then cast his weak type of magic like a madman (except for the Mana Beast because you're required to hit it with your weapons).

Signature goes here!

Both are better :P
