There isn't one already? Even any of the many kanji training games having the meanings in English would probably be pretty helpful to us westerners.

I dunno about kanji training games, but my kanji dictionary for the DS has English definitions for many if not most words. It also has little quiz things that could be used for practice and studying some kanji.

 As for Rosetta Stone, it may be a great way to study and learn as well. An advantage I see with the DS is that it is more easily portable, so you could use it almost any time.

Edit: Oh, and signed.

Signed =)

You could of course write a petition to Rosetta Stone to make them do a DS/Wii version.

I haven't tried Rosetta Stone yet, but I've had some sucess (and fun!) with Talk Now! in japanese/french/german.

I would be really easy to port something like Talk Now! to just about anything, including the web.

And yes, I signed it.

signed!

signed it, so that it hopefully motivates other languages as well

I have put it on other forums, if you don't see an increase in signatures now I don't get it X_X.

Signed. I would buy a DS just for this language training game (although if I did get one I'd probably end up buying a few other games as well). It would be very useful learning Japanese while on the train.

Montana,

Rossetta Stone is a great language learning program. This is very true. After a month of Rosetta Stone most people will learn a decent amount of the language they are studying. However Rosetta's greatest strength lies with in Speaking and Hearing. Writing and reading is better left off to Pimsler especially for asian languages. The speaking portion is exceptional great and the way they build vocabulary is outstanding.

That said the DS would offer a much better interface for those wishing to actually read and write(especially write) a foreign language. It also has the advantage of being more portable for a single use app than a laptop with a better battry life to boot as well so you could work on it on a plane train or automobile(assuming you are not driving).

Will sign the petition later today.

Signed at #74. I wouldn't buy a DS just for a language training game, but it would push me to buy it earier then I have planned
