Rossetta Stone is a great language learning program. This is very true. After a month of Rosetta Stone most people will learn a decent amount of the language they are studying. However Rosetta's greatest strength lies with in Speaking and Hearing. Writing and reading is better left off to Pimsler especially for asian languages. The speaking portion is exceptional great and the way they build vocabulary is outstanding.
That said the DS would offer a much better interface for those wishing to actually read and write(especially write) a foreign language. It also has the advantage of being more portable for a single use app than a laptop with a better battry life to boot as well so you could work on it on a plane train or automobile(assuming you are not driving).
