The PS3 is selling poorly. Because it was "supposed" to sell the way the Wii is selling right now. And it isn't. It doesn't matter how you try to spin it, the PS3 is not doing nearly as well as it was supposed to.

@killzone.... have you not read how much of an increase it would take for the ps3 to overtake xbox in 08? let alone catch up to wii? your dreaming the impossible for the wii with whats currently going on, and the stakes are very high unless ps3 gets a huge boost in sales from games.

I think price is easily the most important issue when talking about the sales of the PS3.
I think the price cut showed that there is a good amount of interest in the platform, it just doesn't have a mass-appeal price point, and thus has been turning a lot of consumers away. There is no doubt it hasn't been selling as expected, but with the system not even being a year old as of yet, I'm still dumbfounded some call it a failure.

I still believe people should wait until the popular PS franchises such as MGS4, FFXIII, and GT5 debut before judging its overall success. New IP's are important, but with these it will be interesting to see how many of those PS2 owners make the switch to get their favorite franchises sequel.

But they didn't really have any AAA games coming out yet did they?  Warhawk and Lair were supposed to be good but they were never said to be blockbusters AFAIK except by the forum freaks like Killzone 3 who desperately need ammo for the Sony Defense Force guns which will be running pretty dry until 2008 hits.  However, I am honestly excited to see the reviews for Folklore.

As far as I know, Warhawk and Lair were supposed to be pretty huge boosters for the PS3.

Even at its worst its weakest, $600 and no games it went even with the 360! Thats says plenty, PS brand is a wounded bear but he can still rip your head off with one swing.

09 will be very hard on the PS3, sadly I see the sales continuing on much like they have, no matter the price point of the PS3. I wanted a PS3 pretty bad when it was first announced... now I care less about the system. I think the 360 and PS3 will end up very close to the 360 and Gamecube sales from last gen, possibly a bit higher with market expansion taken into consideration but very close none the less. (This is not a bad thing for someone who plans on buying these systems, both the GC and Xbox had a lot of great games last gen).


i think they might end up higher unless wii domination turns into what the ps2 did

 The Wii has been outselling the PS2 since launch.  What makes you think this will stop at some point?  The HD arguement has been proven wrong countless times.  Most Wii owners also have HDTV's and care less about what the Wii outputs as you probably know from other threads.  I see the Wii continuing it's domination this gen, the PS3 is seen as a failure due to it not selling similarly to the Wii.  Not that it's a failure for gamers as it definately has games that gamers want.  Much like the Gamecube had last gen for it's users.

Yea im trying to say it to all the fanboys who said, somg we got AAA games coming out like 360 and wii! somg ps3 gonna own da world.

Hmm i think HS and lair were not going to be AAA but very deep AA, and they were supposed to help combat the drought of ordinary game and be actual good games and they turned into a little better then average. I think the only chance they have of even coming close to AAA is possibly warhawk very small chance, folklore looks ok, and uncharted and ratchet, thats it.

Rather sad when wii and 360 have some def AAA coming out and a whole bunch that could easily be AAA but will def be AA



                 With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

OKAY. I THOUGHT I SPELLED THIS OUT PRETTY CLEARLY IN THE OP BUT APPARENTLY NOT.

THE PS3 IS SELLING POORLY COMPARED TO THE PS2. IT IS SELLING POORLY COMPARED TO THE WII. IT IS SELLING POORLY COMPARED TO EXPECTATIONS. IT IS SELLING POORLY COMPARED TO SONY'S PREDICTIONS.

COMPARED, COMPARED, COMPARED. NONE OF THAT MEANS THAT THE SALES ARE JUST PLAIN BAD.

The PS3 shouldn't lose developers to the 360, for instance, because it is in fact selling better than the 360. It will probably lose developers to the Wii, though.

Fanboys have issue's dealing with reality.  Both games were unproven franchises, they took some risks and didn't fullfill expectations from reviewers.

Rogue Squadron on the cube looked awesome... but played much less so...  this is what Lair is based on and hence it won't be as fun as it looks.  (Why am I dissing games I bought and liked? Ugh...) 

Big PS3 boosters are in the distance at the moment.  Hopefully Sony can get it's act together for it's fanbase/user's.
