Forums - Nintendo - Support The Dead Space Petition

someone mentioned people were warranted for being angry because of "deception".

seems like the gaming community is just overflowing with perpetual whiners.

A company makes an initial statement that a new game is coming out. 2 weeks later people are realizing it's going to be something other than what they invisioned and are up in arms over it...without giving the game a chance.

Deception would have been saying it was a tps and waiting till the release date and having a sticker on the packaging saying "ohh btw, its actually on rails, lolz" =p

Sorry, I don't mind an on rails shooter. I would take a TPS or and FPS, but on rails is fine as well. Anything Dead Space seems to be cool to me at the moment.

Just kiss the tip.

Never said I wanted the game canned. But, why not just make it into a FPS?

Have to change too much, prolly redo the whole thing.

They really wouldn't have to reprogram all that much.  Many video games have gone through much more drastic overhauls.  If it means the game will be more successful why not take a few extra months and potencially have exponencially better sales?

Well, we don't know that we will get more sales. Just because we are upset does not mean the sales go down. Anyways,. they would prolly have to redo the engine for this as it is a rails game, downgrade textures if they were maximized for a rails world, scrap some of the areas and expand on the ones they are putting more content in. This is alot to do if they want to hit their release date.

I have read through all of your posts and I really hope that you are not being serious. Are you actually saying that we should accept crappy games becuase thats what developers want to bring to the Wii? What if this was the PS2 we were talking about? Should owners of that system accept crappy dumb ports of Gamecube and Xbox games? Hell no.

The Wii has serious limitaions hardware wise cmpared to the 360 or PS3, but don't ever tell me I should settle for less. Specially when the system is the cheapest to develop for with by far the largest install base.

I hope this game is good. I like light gun games and it does look good. But becuase of SOB's like you who are willing to settle for mediocrity that's exactly what we will keep geting.

So you're mad because it's not Just Another FPS?

How ridiculous. Railshooters are not an inferior form of gaming, even if they don't provide quite the same rush of aggression hormones. Your childish petition will be ignored by the developers, just as it should.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Some of us can still distinguish between different levels of deception. Not everything is black and white, this is just a slight deception.

I thought the thread title meant this petition would be about supporting Dead Space Extraction.

And why are us Wii owners the first to do petitions anyhow? I don't get it...

Tough luck. Get over it. When you bought your wii, you should have known what product you were buying and what games would be available for such product. I knew exactly what I was getting when I bought my wii, a good bit of amazing games with great controls that both were and will be coming out and then a bunch of carnivalish games and lousy ports. But if you wanted to play the version of Dead Space on the 360 and PS3 you should have bought one of those systems to play it. EA never lied to you, never said it was porting that game, it's your own fault for thinking they would. The quality of this title can still be great, but if you wanna whine because it's not a TPS just don't buy it don't act like someone stole your lolipop when you were five over it. Sheesh.

The point is people on the wii want to play a 3rd person shooter with the wiimote. I have a 360 and don't want to play it there.

And my point is, when you bought your wii did you see any TPS games coming out? I don't think so. Furthermore, EA never claimed this was going to be, you yourself put that stupid thought into your head. It's rediculous to complain to EA for that. Along with EA, go complain to every other publisher about their games not being TPSs too. 1) When I bought my Wii, I saw the trends that were going on and knew what I was getting into and I don't blame anyone else for it. While the public has adopted the wii, developers haven't. Developers want to push graphics and the technical side as much as they can. That's what developers have done through time and why developers begin to make games, 2) technically they like to push the boundaries as much as they can. The only thing publishers are going to want to publish is cash ins and ports so they can then get your money and then use it to make next generation games and push the evelope. If you want to bitch to someone, bitch at Nintendo for limiting the technical capabilities of the system to what they are now. When the next wii comes out and is in HD it will blow away the competition, and rightfully so, but until then we got what we payed for.

1) most people on here would of baught a Wii at launch. There was no real trend that could be determined as a fair few core attempts at games come out. Just look at the games that come out at launch Zelda, Red Steel, Far Cry, Call of Duty 3. Sure msot were not that great and had bugs in it. However did any of these games indicate at launch that the Wii would be an on-rails system?

2) technically you say, you do realise that a NEW FORM OF CONTROLS is a technical boundary? Just because it isn't easily seen on screen (i.e GFX), being able to control something in a new way which ENHANCES game experience is a thing as you put it that "push the envelope".

There have been developers who have bitches about the Wii remote being to hard to program for to get a FPS game type right? Well if they REALLY like to "push the envelope" they wouldn't be so scared and take on this technical challenge.

BACK ON POINT

I agree with OP, but he has gone about it the wrong way. The aim shoudl be to point out that their are games liek RE4, COD, MP3, MOH that do work without the need of being on rails.

Will I be dissapointed? probably not as long as the story of the game is good. Otherwise I would rather an RTS style game to make it more interesting.

oh come on!

No, that is not what I am saying. What I am saying is I think it looks like a good game though not what I wanted, and for them to change it to what the petition says would cost alot of resources to do. I wanted the 3rd person game but I don't think this is a cheap port or a cheap cash in. This has an A team on it and the graphics look very nice so far. They also promise to make this different from rail shooters.

Now, what I said was not that we should settle for less. I was saying (and we need to see more of the graphics imo) if the graphics were maximized for a rails game they might have to downgrade the textures. This would mean they have used as much as they can. If you have a rail game you have less environment to process etc, giving the ability to have better textures than say, a full third person shooter.

If I thought this was a true cheap, chicken shit effort I would bash the hell out of this. But, it is not. It looks like real effort is going into it and for that I am happy. It was just not what I was hoping for when I heard the annoucement. What I hope is that they make a 3rd person game in addition to this one. I don't know if they will but if some of the upcoming titles do well I would bet they will.

Now, @ Solid_Raiden:

The amount of fail, stupidity and insults in your post is astonishing. So if I want a 3rd person shooter game, which we had with the RE4 port mind you (which came out close to launch), why am I wrong to complain? RE4 did well, at the start of the gen it would not be a leap to think publishers would put some core games on. Not only that, the market leader, which sells to more than just the expanded userbase mind you, has a nice big userbase. Core titles can sell and make good profits. On the otherhand you have a failed, bloated HD budget. Yes, companies can put cheap minigames on the wii and make some money there (not for sure, not every shit game sells you know) and then spend some of that on HD development. But, you have closings and layoffs like we are seeing. you have lenders not funding these large projects in the first place because they see them as large risks with a limited return. Lenders are very cautious now with big loans. That is why wii development is ideal. Wii does not need all games, but it deserves its fair share now.  Lastly, why would I complain to Nintendo. They are the one making it so the industry continues to grow. If you recall, the industry is shrinking without the wii here. Not only that, they have implemented a new and improved method of input that is far more important than just upgrading the graphics. It is not my fault developers measure their dick size by how many shiny graphics they put out instead of quality gameplay and fun. And its not my problem when they get laid off because they do. Either they will adapt or they will continue to take losses and die. That is how business works my friend.
