My only mental block in all this is "are they out of time?" I mean, the expanded audience model is covered by Nintendo, Ubi is just a leech on the already established expanded user base and those interested in life style games; but the incumbent users who look forward to the Devil May Cry's and the Grandia's and the Valkyria Chronicles of this world may have been divided horribly.
What if the PS3 and Xbopx360 didn't expand the consumer base like the PS2 did and instead they only split what was already there, anyone notice how many sequals there were this cycle for the HD consoles alone, not saying sequals are bad, but what may be bad is that a number of these sequals were multiplatform.
This means that incumbent users are split between 3 consoles, Wii,PS3 and Xbox360 some obviously owning multiple consoles. But the thing is they would only need 1 copy of each game. Depending on their values maybe even two of the same game.
I don't see a divide in the established consumber base as being a healthy thing, because now that the Wii is clearly the most popular platform it means, the the window of opportunity is closing. The most popular system means people are paying attention to that platform in larger numbers, they needed at least a year or two ahead of time to actually wrap their heads not just around the software but the concept of interface content.
It may be too late. V_V
