Forums - Gaming - The Wii generation. History will judge the 3rd parties

@BMaker11

Totally agree wth you 100 percent...you speak the truth...yet you will never change the minds on any Nintendo Fan...they will never admit when they are wrong or that they have the same rehash games over and over and over again on every "new" nintendo console that comes out

3rd Party Developers aint making games on the same level as the so called great Mario and Zelda(which by the way was a huge let down to many fans) because they just simply dont have too...they can release any crappy port or shovelware...and guess what? it will sell...

Not only that but The WII suffers from not having the same capabilities and graphics power the other consoles have...so many games that could have easily been made for the Wii that came out on 360 or Ps3 simply cant be done...because of it's limited capabilities...this is a fact...

Example GTA 4....cant and will never be able to be produced on Nintendos Wii...

I've seen Resident Evil 4 run on a cell phone...

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

My only mental block in all this is "are they out of time?" I mean, the expanded audience model is covered by Nintendo, Ubi is just a leech on the already established expanded user base and those interested in life style games; but the incumbent users who look forward to the Devil May Cry's and the Grandia's and the Valkyria Chronicles of this world may have been divided horribly.

What if the PS3 and Xbopx360 didn't expand the consumer base like the PS2 did and instead they only split what was already there, anyone notice how many sequals there were this cycle for the HD consoles alone, not saying sequals are bad, but what may be bad is that a number of these sequals were multiplatform.

This means that incumbent users are split between 3 consoles, Wii,PS3 and Xbox360 some obviously owning multiple consoles. But the thing is they would only need 1 copy of each game. Depending on their values maybe even two of the same game.

I don't see a divide in the established consumber base as being a healthy thing, because now that the Wii is clearly the most popular platform it means, the the window of opportunity is closing. The most popular system means people are paying attention to that platform in larger numbers, they needed at least a year or two ahead of time to actually wrap their heads not just around the software but the concept of interface content.

It may be too late. V_V

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

@RolStoppable

Thats a very good question actually...I just believe that Publishers and Developers have raised their standard of what they like to call "Success"

I remember back in the days if your game sold atleast 1 Million copies it was instantly labeled a success and you would know right off the bat that they were going to make a sequel for it...

But times have change...if a game this generation does not sell 5 Million copies such as great games like Mario,Zelda,GTA 4,MGS 4,Halo 3....then they are labeled as "failure" maybe this is due to the fact that making these games cost alot more money than before but to me...if a game sells 1 million copies it should be celebrated not bashed for not selling 5 million copies...

And I believe third parties SHOULD take and make the effort to make great quality titles for the Nintendo Wii...When I first heard of Nintendo's system I was excited because I wanted to play FPS in a different way....a way which would make me feel as Im really shooting and interacting with the game like never before...but Nintendo let me down when they did'nt release the Wii with great graphics...even though that is not all their is to a system it counts when it comes to making games just ask any developer or publisher...

While what you say is true about HD development costs...I dont think Developers and Publishers care about this...they will just release some crappy game on Wii...it sells and there you go you made your money back that you wasted developing HD games....

HD gaming is the future wether people like it or not...everything when it first comes out cost money...DVD Players cost alot of money when they came out...Blue Rays...MP3...CD's...Computers...it's just reality...new technology cost alot of money....put up with it or get out the game....

Next generation you will see the costs of making HD games come down drastically...and Nintendo WILL be in the HD gaming market most definitely next generation...

That's was Midway's buisness model. Sure did them a lot of good. =P

Just as a side note ...

Outputting graphics at HD resolutions is the future of games, but the highly detailed graphics with the advanced graphical technologies will probably never be cost effective for a large portion of games.

Pfffff plz people, stop bashing 3rd parties, it's pretty clear now that regular games don't sell well on wii. Just look at the past japanese chartz, there were big third parties games and they all floped.

You make a swell point. There are some games that have been released that had a lot of thought and work  put into them but did not sell. I think about games like Ele-bits and Zak and something or other. The reviewers loved the games but the public hated it.

Then along come games like Carnival Games and Sonic and Mario and multimillion dollar sales ifollow?

It's hard to nail down what will sell on the Wii. The casual crowd is not that informed and will fall for things like advertising and pretty boxes. And i can't blame them.

Yeah, pretty interesting thread. Hey, did anybody ever notice how the NES library is literally PACKED with games that nobody ever played, that were cheap cash-in attempts from PC developers who folded like a house of cards shortly afterwards? And how the games on the NES that were blockbusters were entirely unlike anything ever seen on PC at the time, or were so differently done than anything like them on PC as to be a truly new experience? Yeah...

I'm just sayin', everybody waiting for the Wii to turn into the mini-360 with motion controls? You're the same as those people who were waiting for a killer PCRPG or flight simulator to show up on the NES but with NES-style controls... The future is now. The games that are selling like hotcakes on Wii are the future. Like it or leave it, a market that survives shapes itself to cater to the strongest portion of the market.
