Forums - Microsoft - Star Ocean: The Last Hope - Game Informer Scan (Review)

Reviews matter to me a lot. And 7 is a 7.

That being said as usual I am waiting for IGN/gamespot/GT reviews. IGN will publish their review on 19th.

However, jRPG genre really needs a blockbuster title ASAP. It seems like every console jRPG this gen either gets bad critical response or pathetic sales. Or both.

I find it wierd that JRPGs tend to have cringe worthy dialogue.  I thought publishers figured out how to localize their games properly.  BTW, The Last Remnant could've been amazing if it wasn't rushed out.

"the last hope is plagued by a number of problems, but if you can invest the time needed for this game to blossom(thats a big if) the combat system and mystirious plot reward you well for your time" well its a jrpg so its obvious its gonna get marks like this, but im suprisingly enjoying infinite undiscovery which scores less that this.........il certainly be looking at so4 looks to be a good game,

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

DQ IX, DQ X, FFXIII and Versus will all be AAA games with at least a million sales first week. Same old same old, some things never change and that includes no other JRPG franchise being any good.

The reason Infinite Undiscovery was average was not because of the name, it was because of the gameplay, poor pacing, and general poor game design. I am still going to get this game, but I am not as excited as I would have been if tri-ace had not just made IU and it is getting average reviews (though that remains to be seen)

If you played any other Star Ocean games, you'd know it's nothing like IU. So who cares about the score it got, it shouldn't affect what you think of the Star Ocean series. If they were to release an IU2 then your concern would be valid. It's like if you've let a score on a Mario Party affect what you think of Zelda... It would make no sence. Two different games.

Roffle, a 7. It's cute that GameInformer is rating the game like Star Ocean doesn't transcend reviews. That also goes for the fanboys looking for a reason to bash this for being on 360.

The one thing I don't get is that they took off points becuase of poor dialogue.  Yet, Gears of War 2 has that "problem" as well yet gets high scores.  It's like a double standard.

Dunno about the story and plot, but if you compare the technical dept. , gameplay and visuals of SO4 with IU then the former is miles ahead. Also IU was developed by the 2nd team of Tri-Ace and was the first game to be developed with their new engine (and they don´t have the ressources to spend years and years of improving the engine for just one game, like SE does) whereas SO4 by the main team on an improved engine.

I´ve been following SO4 for a very long time and I´ve seen countless of CGI, real-time and gameplay vids of the game and I´ll be buying it day one no matter what reviewers say. Even if all reviewers give it crap grades I´ll buy it day one.

LOL at the Selnor worriers. Any JRPG fan doesnt use reviews from normal sites.

Specialist sites like RPGfan are the sites I'll be listening to. Would you like to know why?

FF12 was a 6 at best for me. What do you think Game Informer gave it....

Damage control?

I could do the same. Famitsu gave Haze a 34/40 (keep in mind Halo got like a 35)......even though IGN gave it a 65

I have played another SO game, though I never finished it, but it has a very similar battle system, and IU looked poor, and it was poor written and designed, and given that both games are made by the same developer, I am slightly concerned.

According to wiki, they have 153 employees, and so I doubt that there are completely differnet people making the games, I am sure there is some overlap in the teams. It is not like Ubi Montreal, where the people who made the Lost game have absolutely nothing to do with those who made Assassin's Creed, there will be an overlap, and when they recently made a poor game, I am slightly concerned about what they are going to produce

I have to be honest and say DQ and FF are my top JRPG, growing in Tokyo those are the only 2 JRPG I bothered to play and same goes for my friends back there. KH was pretty good, TO games were meh and still are meh but I have been hyped for FFXIII, Versus, Agito and DQ IX since they were announced and no doubt will have to be the games which set the bar this generation for JRPG.

DQ IX releases this year which means FFXII will not make it in Japan until at least march 2010, goodness knows when EU and NA gamers will finally get to play the game. :/ Versus probably 2011 then and DQ X 2012...........WOW that is bad.

So it will have taken 4 years for the first great JRPG to releases this gen which makes me very very sad. :(

You never played Persona 3 FES or 4?

Those 2 games stay true to the (JRPG) genre.  SE's games have become very "Westernized" lately.  and I'm sure he's never played those two games.
