The 360 and Wii were supply constrained last year at this time, so the jump in increased numbers would not have been so big otherwise.
PS3 is not catching 360 this gen. It's just not. Might it sell more eventually, after MS moves on to its next console? Perhaps, depending on how long Sony sticks by the PS3 versus moving on and retrying it with PS4.
But an 8 million and growing gap is not turning around any time soon. That's 80k a week for 100 straight weeks. Good luck.
