has anyone of you seen the jaggies in Mario Galaxy? their big... theres jaggies on Mario.. no one complains... stop complaining please. Truly idk why Nintendo cant uses a bit of AA in their games.

The Wii does handle AA, but the thing that always makes me wonder is why DS and Wii screenshots look considerably worse than the final product, no matter what the game is. It may sound strange, but I guarantee you that any screenshot of any game on the DS or Wii, is pixellated and jagged, but in the final product these are at a minimum. I don't know why it happens with DS and Wii games but it does, but I would put money on there being zero (or extremely minimal) jagginess in Mario Galaxy.

I play games on my DS and Wii, and yet I have no idea how they look the way they do in publications or online sites, the screenshots can even be from the final products yet they still look worse.

right... you are in idiot arent you?

someone was complaining about jaggies in the game, well look at the above pic (not in this quote) with mario as a Bee, look at the fence, heck look at up close, all his lines are jagged. Those are pretty bad, maybe not as bad as cruis'n but there are jaggies. All these problems could be solved with a bit higher quality texturing/skinning and/or x1 AA.

Oh the side of textures, Mario is greatly superior. There is no question on that.

I was pointing out that jaggies are going to be more visible in most Nintendo games till they support AA.

There is no fanboyism in my statement, I want to play Mario, just saying there is a need for some AA in most of the games.

@stof - Turok on the PS3/360 looks pretty good, seems to be a strong game to revive that franchise.

Maybe you just don't know what jaggies are, but you are still wrong. I'm guessing you are mistaking the lighting effect that gives mario that funky white light and outline as jaggies. I'm sure someone around here is more qualified than I to confirm that they are not, but they certainly are not jaggies. That's purely an artistic decision. You may not LIKE the artistic decision, but that's what it is. As far as most Wii games having jaggies, none of the big 3 have any major jaggy issues at all:

Metroid Prime 3:

Super Mario Galaxy:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl:

That said, there are certainly a lot of poorly made Wii games out there with many issues such as jaggies... they just aren't the games made by Nintendo. I think you simply misinterpreted the artist's lighting effects on Super Mario Galaxy as a lot of Jaggies.  The Wii does allow for Anti-Aliasing btw.

Whats all the fuss about, it´s not that bad for a DS game...(actually reads article....picks up jaw from flor in comic fashion) Ok, this shit will not stand man, this agression will not stand...

maybe we Wii owners brought this on ourselfs with all our we don´t play graphics talk... naa, this is just to messed up to be true, only logical explanation is they leaked these super bad pics so that when the game comes out and looks bad it will look great in comparison.

and @ ssj12: Calling others idiots will not make you look more intelligent and proves no point what-so-ever. If you think Wii games look bad fine, some do ,some don´t, it´s a matter of opinion and comparison, just because High-end PCs make the PS3s graphics look bad doesn´t mean the PS3 has bad graphics. If you think any of the big 3 have bad graphics you are in a very small minority and are fighting a very steep uphill battel. I´m not to tell you which battles to fight but this one seems lost to me, just my opinion

Those shots are crap, but there's no way the game will actually run at the resolution of these screenshots. There like, 320x240. I think these are REALLY bad quality shots that were meant to be viewed at half the size at which they were posted. The game still looks like crap right now, but there's no way in hell that the Wii will output in that resolution. I don't even think it supports resolutions that low. Heck, even the crappiest mini-games were at least 640x480.

That racing game looks like a ds game(and thats sad..).

There's no way the actual game can run at that resolution. My TV wouldn't even DISPLAY a resolution that low. I'm telling you, the actual game won't look quite that bad (though it will probably look horrible, just not as bad as those crap screenshots).

And Midway released Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the Wii, that wasn't such a bad game... IGN gave it a 7.8

I just don't see how the final game could actually look like this, I don't believe it will.

I wasn't looking forward to this game when they announced it, and I'm not even going to try and rent it if it looks that bad.

Heck, the N64 VC version of Cruis'n USA would probably look better!

What's the big deal? Graphics don't matter.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

That's not what most people mean when they say 'graphics aren't that important'.  What they are trying to say is that most people don't need high definitition graphics (i.e. something along the lines of the 360/PS3) to enjoy a game.  Just because the Wii isn't as powerful as the other two consoles, it doesn't mean that developers have the right to take a step backwards and give Wii owners N64 level graphics.  And if they're giving us N64 visuals, they're probably also delivering N64 level game play.  (And we're not talking Zelda: OoT or Mario 64 game play either!)  Considering Midway's past and some of the other shovelware that the Wii has gotten over the past year, these screen shots are an ominous sign of a rushed game out to cash in on the Wii's popularity.

Guys, Mario Galaxy screenshots definitely have jaggies sometimes.

It's not really debatable. I'm not sure why some of them look so bad...but I've seen videos on and offscreen, and the game in motion is fine.

It's really just the screenshots that for some reason get jaggies sometimes on Mario and other characters.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
