Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 demo video from the start.

I personally can't say I was impressed by the demo. It feels like there wasn't enough pressure put on the player. The huge killer for me is the fact that the guys using the turrets on the bridge don't actually shoot you. There's not much reason to take cover.

What I really would've loved is if it took longer to get upto that bridge and changed the level up abit so you're constantly being shot at. And of course, give the player an actual reason to use the rocket launcher - you can blow up the bridge with your rifle from a far distance. The whole thing felt a tad bit weak.

Then again, I've seen countless vids of this level and I always thought it looked like one of the less-impressive ones in the game - at the start, you feel like you're in a big war, but it doesn't take long at all to get to the dull warehouse section that looks like it was put there just to show off the explosives. The outside part of the level obviously got much more attention, and though it has some obvious flaws it's still pretty chaotic and has a good atmosphere to it.....it was just way too short.

This is one prob with releasing demos for a great game - if it's not a good one, people will start assuming the full game is somewhat bad.

I don't know why everyone is expecting this to be harder than Halo 3 on Legendary...it's the first level, on the third hardest difficulty! If it's that easy, play on Hard in the full version!

I personally think this is a good difficulty, because I don't like dying every 10 seconds.

By the way, that definitely wasn't CGI. It blended seamlessly into the first level, with no jump of any kind. I think the CGI cutscene is the one before it, which isn't in the demo.

 This.

Everbody read OP again. I said the intro to the game not demo was CGI. Meaning what I posted 1 and a half weeks ago. There was no cgi in the demo. I was referring to this video. sorry bout the confusion.

I knew that was cgi and i haven't even seen it. I read it somewhere.

Check out my game about moles ^

To some extent, I think Selnor is just having some fun with us.  He does raise some valid points that people will have differing opinions on.  If Killzone 2 is able to deliver the same intensity found in the demo for the full 10 hours, it will replace COD4 as the definitive shooter of this generation.

Just a couple of notes based upon Selnor's original post:
1) Graphics comparison between Halo 3 and Killzone 2 Demo http://www.riseofgames.com/giochi/3696/47/halo_is_dead_english_.html
Which one is more "next gen"?

2) Number of enemies:  This purely a game design decision.  Games like Halo 3 and Resistance 2 offer a great number of enemies, but the AI is fairly straightforward and generic.  Killzone is much more of a tactical shooter that pressures the player with fewer enemies.  The beach level included 16 enemies plus 8 squad mates.  The AI is flawless in this scene.  The enemy will continually try to flank you or rush you.  Your teammates are proficient at protecting you, but will need your help at clearing the level.

3) Low res textures: All video games will have low res textures, even a graphically advanced game such as Killzone.  It is easier to spot blurry textures in a FPS than a TPS such as Gears of War since the player can zoom on the object.  Look at some of the Halo 3 textures in bullet number 1.

4) Intro movie is CGI: If it is, so?

5) I see couple of complaints about the hit testing while shooting.  I haven't noticed this, I wonder if you are experiencing this while actually aiming or when you are firing from the hip?  I aim most of the time, and it always seems accurate to me.  First shot knocks off the helmet, second shot is a kill.  I do agree that the accuracy when firing from the hip suffers, but to me it is about as accurate as it should be.  Just turn off the crosshair, it will force you to aim.

6) Not what you were promised: I assume you are saying this doesn't live up to the fanboy hype, and I guess I would agree.  But it certainly delivers what Guerilla promised.  The graphics are the best I have seen.  This includes the art style, textures, animations, and processing effects.  The AI was a big concern going into the demo, and I would have to say that is the area I am most impressed with.  The enemy AI is ruthless, and that is on the easy mode.  In terms of innovation, this is the way cover should be implemented in an FPS, it is a perfect system.  You need to use a finger to stay in cover, and lean with an analog stick.  Cover should come at a cost, I am tired of cover systems that glue you to objects until you press the button again.  That seems last gen to me.

As always, great post Selnor.  I disagree with most of your points, but you do present a good argument.

Edit: Selnor, How many enemies does Gears of War 2 put on the screen at once and what level is it?  I have the game but I didn't really care for the gameplay so I stopped playing.

Also, this story isn't about you is it?

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Thanks I'm glad you liked it. I wasnt really trying to compare Halo 3 with KZ2 graphically. One game is for realism and one is for cartoonish art. Very different.

I'm glad you like it, I like it to. On the AI subject I found KZ2 no different than games like Halo 3 or Gears 2. I was impressed with Halo 3's AI, flanking, never being in the same spot etc etc. It was good to see KZ2 have AI along those lines.

But either way it's a great shooter. Full version will be the real test anyway. :)

@Selnor - Please read my edit. I am very curious about the last question.

Yeah, that's definitely CGI. That wasn't the E3 2005 trailer, was it?

To selnor,

I m affraid you will never find many "enemes" to figh at the same time until the last part of the game when the game shines and is more epic.

(according to a french video review and I dont know if it is 10 enemies or 40 ones+vehicule ...)
