To some extent, I think Selnor is just having some fun with us.  He does raise some valid points that people will have differing opinions on.  If Killzone 2 is able to deliver the same intensity found in the demo for the full 10 hours, it will replace COD4 as the definitive shooter of this generation.

Just a couple of notes based upon Selnor's original post:
1) Graphics comparison between Halo 3 and Killzone 2 Demo http://www.riseofgames.com/giochi/3696/47/halo_is_dead_english_.html
Which one is more "next gen"?

2) Number of enemies:  This purely a game design decision.  Games like Halo 3 and Resistance 2 offer a great number of enemies, but the AI is fairly straightforward and generic.  Killzone is much more of a tactical shooter that pressures the player with fewer enemies.  The beach level included 16 enemies plus 8 squad mates.  The AI is flawless in this scene.  The enemy will continually try to flank you or rush you.  Your teammates are proficient at protecting you, but will need your help at clearing the level.

3) Low res textures: All video games will have low res textures, even a graphically advanced game such as Killzone.  It is easier to spot blurry textures in a FPS than a TPS such as Gears of War since the player can zoom on the object.  Look at some of the Halo 3 textures in bullet number 1.

4) Intro movie is CGI: If it is, so?

5) I see couple of complaints about the hit testing while shooting.  I haven't noticed this, I wonder if you are experiencing this while actually aiming or when you are firing from the hip?  I aim most of the time, and it always seems accurate to me.  First shot knocks off the helmet, second shot is a kill.  I do agree that the accuracy when firing from the hip suffers, but to me it is about as accurate as it should be.  Just turn off the crosshair, it will force you to aim.

6) Not what you were promised: I assume you are saying this doesn't live up to the fanboy hype, and I guess I would agree.  But it certainly delivers what Guerilla promised.  The graphics are the best I have seen.  This includes the art style, textures, animations, and processing effects.  The AI was a big concern going into the demo, and I would have to say that is the area I am most impressed with.  The enemy AI is ruthless, and that is on the easy mode.  In terms of innovation, this is the way cover should be implemented in an FPS, it is a perfect system.  You need to use a finger to stay in cover, and lean with an analog stick.  Cover should come at a cost, I am tired of cover systems that glue you to objects until you press the button again.  That seems last gen to me.

As always, great post Selnor.  I disagree with most of your points, but you do present a good argument.

Thanks I'm glad you liked it. I wasnt really trying to compare Halo 3 with KZ2 graphically. One game is for realism and one is for cartoonish art. Very different.

I'm glad you like it, I like it to. On the AI subject I found KZ2 no different than games like Halo 3 or Gears 2. I was impressed with Halo 3's AI, flanking, never being in the same spot etc etc. It was good to see KZ2 have AI along those lines.

But either way it's a great shooter. Full version will be the real test anyway. :)
