Forums - Gaming - PS360 owners to shift to the Wii?

Also what games are actually coming to the Wii? Yeah I saw the long list last page and know most of them myself but non of them are that big.

Nothing on the Wii (Minus DQX in Japan) is really a 'big' game. Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, MGS, Devil May Cry, GTA, Call of Duty, Street Fighter etc all have their main interations on the PS360... Wii has nothing like that 0_o. It has Nintendo games, but so did the GameCube :/.

Anywho, I have a lecture, and when I return I've no doubt this thread will be huge and I won't be arsed to read it. toodles x.

Well dude those titles on the list weren't big to you in the same way "Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, MGS, Devil May Cry, GTA, Call of Duty, Street Fighter etc" isn't big to someone else :)

ok, I know everyone loves lists, but you guys including House of the Dead as a potentially great game are funny. UC wasn't very good, and it had the RE license.

Not everyone likes arcade shooters but surely that doesn't mean it can't be a great game, does it? I also don't see what RE:UC has to do with this, cause it isn't even a real lightgun game. House of the Dead 2+3 already is much better than RE:UC, let alone Overkill.

reviews are about equal.  Whatever you say, though.  It will have the same gameplay and it's hardly a hotly anticipated title worthy of a short list.

Well if you want the most exclusive games in the years to come Wii is the console to have, so much like PS2 was the must have for most exclusives and then owning a GC or Xbox.

Well I can tell you that it is for me. I have it in pre-order. I'm surely not the only one.

It WON'T have the same gameplay. There's a significant difference between having a mandatory crosshair (RE:UC) and not having it (HotD).

Also lightgun shooters are a hardcore genre that has been revived by Wii, of which I'm very glad, so despite you clearly not liking the genre I really don't see what the negaitivity around the genre/game is all about. I absolutely hate hack & slash games, yet you'll never see me saying that GoW or DMC aren't supposed to be on a list of great games.

I had a Gamecube and PS2. Despite PS2 being better in games, Gamecube was my main platform. I beated Wind Waker 13 times (Yeah thirteen, I am not kidding). Oh and those Mario Kart Double Dash evenings *.*

Nintendo games have that magical touch :)

I was also very addicted on the trashy Eighteen Wheeler x___X

Don't know why, that trash unrealistic simulator(?) is addictive!

@Jammy: Basically every 3rd party exclusive is what GC didn't have. And another thing to notice is, that "Wii" was a completely new IP, which definately is currently the biggest IP this gen.

@Windbane: The list had more variety between different type of games than the whole PS360 library.

I'm going to say no.

The difference between the wii and PS2 is that the PS2 was riding the success of the PS1, which gave birth to many franchises that naturally carried over to the PS2 (MGS, GT, Tekken, Crash bandicoot in it's hay day, Spyro, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil etc).

The Gamecube provided very little of that (3rd party wise) for the Wii, so whilst the PS3 and 360 are getting belted by the Wii, Developers assumed that Sony and Microsoft would ride the wave of their successes last gen (obviously sony more than MS) into the HD era, so most franchises we all know and love would have landed on either or both of the HD consoles.

The problem for the Wii now is that these third party devs have spent so much money developing engines to work on these HD consoles, that creating new ones for the Wii (remember, the wii ain't an Xbox, not as easy to zap power out of as we've seen so far) would be a "waste of money".

But then again, I would bank on the Wii to be the one to get the most new franchises by the end of the generation (whether they are a critical/commercial successof not) because of that aswell.

Also, when was monster hunter a "top notch" game?

A decent hack and slash title perhaps, but that's as far as I'd go (wouldn't think anybody would even put it anywhere near SMG).

That's one thing I've hated about the Wii fans (not saying OP is one), is that they've elevated average 3rd party franchises into AAA titles just because they are making it exclusively for the Wii (They assume that exclusivity means that they will try, I guess). Example: TENCHU.

@Benga: As an arcade lightgun game REUC wasn't that good, but it did keep the "Resident Evil" feeling in it.

I'm anticipating the House of the Dead as well. It depends on how arcade style the gameplay is, will i get it or not.

Great point.  I agree with this 100%.

And the rest of your post is good too.  with the lack of developement of game engines on the Wii, many 3rd parties will still create PS360 games for the simple reason that they've already got the engine to do so.

The question is however, Will enough 3rd parties create enough great 'top notch' games over the coming years on the Wii to warrent a purchase of the Wii ontop of a 360 or PS3?  I believe yes.  And I also believe it's worth buying even now, without these top notch 3rd party titles.  Heck, in all honesty, this Wii motion+ addon that's coming out will be a huge factor in gaming for me.  (although many people I'm sure will refuse to even try it - AND many people may just not like the experience).

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

@Cal4m1ty: You're right, PS2 and GC/Xbox is a bad comparision. N64/Saturn and PSX is much better one.

Now, basically you are saying that the blockbuster titles stay on PS360, which may be true if you don't count Wii port as a "lost" game.
The logic with the engines fail in the sense, that assumeably developing a HD platform game costs around the same as developing a Wii game and an engine, so the first game may the the expensive one, but the second game saves costs. Not only that, but devs are able to get faster return of investment.
Then more about the financial side of things, alot of the publishers/developers are in deep shit with the HD dev costs, when their options are either to go to Wii, PSP or DS, from which PSP has problems to sell games.

Then hyping the "unproven" games in advance isn't just limited to Wii fans. I see that a lot in the other camps just as well. Especially the PS3 fans have built a reputation with something like Lair or Haze.
