I made a list of the most anticipated games offrom 2009. The genres with the most big releases get a top10, while the smaller genres get top5. I listed the games that I expect to have the most success, in order.

Action

  1. Call of Duty 6
  2. Quake Live I think that's too high
  3. Killzone 2
  4. Half-Life: Episode 3
  5. Resident Evil 5
  6. Street Fight IV  too high
  7. Wolfenstein
  8. Bioshock 2 has the potential to outsell Wolfenstein
  9. Halo 3: OSDT too low
  10. Battlefield Heroes

Action-Adventure

  1. Bionic Commando seriously ?
  2. Mafia II
  3. I am Alive
  4. APB could be a hit, could be a fail
  5. Alan Wake
  6. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  7. Beyond Good & Evil 2 the first didn't sell well
  8. Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned
  9. Prototype
  10. This is Vegas

Adventure

  1. Heavy Rain
  2. Gray Matter
  3. Still Life 2
  4. Three Cards to Midnight
  5. Love

Simulation

  1. The Sims 3
  2. Spore: Galactic Adventures
  3. Jumpgate Evolution
  4. Storm of War: Battle of Britain
  5. Infinity: The Quest for Earth

Strategy

  1. Starcraft 2
  2. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
  3. Empire: Total War
  4. Demigod
  5. Anno 1404
  6. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Uprising
  7. Cities XL
  8. Halo Wars I'm pretty sure this will sell more than Cities XL, Anno 1404 and the Red Alert 3 expansion
  9. Stormrise
  10. Battleforge

RPG

  1. Diablo III
  2. Final Fantasy XIII
  3. Dragon Age: Origins
  4. Guild Wars 2
  5. Aion: Tower of Eternity
  6. Champions Online
  7. Alpha Protocol
  8. DC Universe Online
  9. Mass Effect 2
  10. Risen

Racing

  1. Gran Turismo 5
  2. Burnout 6
  3. Dirt 2
  4. Forza 3 should be 2nd
  5. Fuel

List is pretty decent.

No Wii games?

Shio probably just thinks no Wii games can approach the top 10 list in any genre. He's never wrong you know. What's funny is that I can see so many of those genres being topped by a Wii game when all is said and done. Some of which will be topped by games from 2008 on the Wii!

Wait a minute.

Quake Live is more anticipated than Killzone 2? I am Alive is more anticipated than Uncharted 2?

I think you need to look at this: http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=2722

ffxiii by a long shot for me

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I have nothing against the Wii, but I didn't think of any Wii game that would be in the top10 of any genre in terms of success. I might put that Final Final CC game from the Wii. I'm continuously changing the list and making it better, it's not really finalized.

I can see Quake Live have a massive success in every single continent, with dozens of millions of people playing the game every month. Think of it as the Runescape of Shooters, only with even more potential due to the fact that it's a Quake game and looks to be awesome in every way.

I am Alive is on 3 platforms, has an interesting premise, and being made by some of the people from Assassin's Creed including that chick Jade Raymond that seems to pull some attention to the games she develops by herself (which is kinda silly).

The list I'm making is purely based on the commercial success the games are expected. The anticipation comes from just that. subscription-based games are likely to be well positioned even if they don't sell as many copies as the other games, because they have the monthly payments in their favour.

Jade Raymond has nothing to do with I Am Alive

Yeah, sure. ONE Wii game, when the install base will be near 75 million at the end of 2009?!?

Some comments:

Heavy Rain will bomb and won't be the best sold adventure of 2009.
Killzone 2 won't sell more than RE5
Star Ocean 4 will definitely be in the top 10 RPGs
As much as I would want it to, sadly BG&E 2 won't do much
Pikmin 3 should be in the simulation list
Halo will definitely be in the top 3 shooters, it's Halo and will have MASSIVE PR
