Forums - Sales - What will be the best selling franchise this generation?

Pretty simple question really. This thread is relatively long, and most of it isn't needed to understand the point, so just skip it if you want to.

Okay, one thing.

Mario is split up

The series is split up into

Racers (Mario Kart Wii + DS)

Platformers (Galaxy, SM64DS, NSMB, SPM)

Sports (Sluggers, Charged, Hoops, M&S @ olympics)

Rest: March of the minis, MP8, Partners in time, MPDS

The Wii series is also split up, in a sense.

Wii Sports does only count Japanese sales. Wii Play, Wii Fit and Wii Music are counted.

Then, it is split into

Minigames = Wii Play + Wii Music

Sports = Wii Sports (Japan) + Wii Fit + Wii Sports Resort

Okay, so here's some background information. Note that the "expected lifetime" is only for the games in the series that are already released.

Mario Racers = 28.07M. Expected lifetime = ~ 50M

Mario Platformers = 32.98M. Expected lifetime = ~ 43M

Call of Duty = 24.36M. Expected lifetime = ~ 30M (remember, that's excluding later releases).

Grand Theft Auto = 20.01M. Expected lifetime = ~ 25M

Wii series minigames = 22.51M. No expected lifetime available

Wii series sports =  17.74M. No expected lifetime.

Brain series (Big Brain + Brain Train) =  39.72M. Expected lifetime = ~ 55M

Pokemon = 20.81M. Expected lifetime = ~ 35M

Nintendogs = 21.6M. Expected lifetime = ~ 30M.

Guitar Hero = 21.03M. Expected lifetime = ~ 28M

Final Fantasy: 10.01M. Expected lifetime = pointless, the big titles are yet to release.

Lego: Current sales 17.32M (These games have long, long legs. A Lego Harry Potter game will sell billions.)

Imagine: Current Sales 10.95 (People complain about Ubisoft shovel-ware, but these games sell to their intended demographic. Soon to be 6 million selling DS titles, and they are just getting started on the Wii.)

I won't make a conclusion, as that generally stops the entire thread (I will make one eventually).

Remember that the "Expected lifetime" is only an estimate, and only for the currently released titles.

Edit: Cannot believe I forgot Guitar Hero...

If we're not counting Wii _, I'm going to say either Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty. Probably CoD, since they pump out a game every year.

Oh, Call of Duty is definitely bigger than Grand Theft Auto.

GTA should pump out a ~ 15M more this gen (that's 1 handheld and 1 console. Could possibly be as high as 25M, but I severely doubt that). That puts it on 40-50M.

Call of Duty should be at 40M with just Modern Warfare 2, and as CoD is being released very oftenly, I believe that the following ones should put it over 50M.

It all gets a bit boring when something non Nintendo doesnt stand a chance .... this should really be in the Nintendo discussion.

My mistake, I see GTA and COD up there.

COD stands a good chance with its many iterations across the systems every year.

Why on earth should it be in Nintendo discussion? That makes no sense, it is about best selling franchises.

And CoD should be in relatively good condition... I see it having a shot at 2nd place (edit: 3rd place).

Edit: Whoops, saw your "my mistake"

Guitar Hero also stands a shot at doing well. It could beat out MKWii..

It should be in the Nintendo discussion since Nintendo doesn't sell games.  They sell microwaves and mittens.

I say the Wii sport series(Wii Sports Japan + Wii Fit + Wii Sports: Resort).
But Call of Duty also has a big shot, also in the Call of duty franchise are you also counting Call of Duty 2 and 3 in the totals?
