Forums - Nintendo - Can You Express What it Means to You That Nintendo is Back on Top?

I really didnt care about sales, but their games yes, maybe the lack of third party on N64 and GC is why I have only Nintendo games during their lifespan.

Well, it's nice that they aren't gonna leave the console market like many were predicting a few years ago.

As Nintendo, ever since they got into video games about 3 decades a go, has consistently been the world's best games developer and the most innovating gaming company both in software and hardware, I am, for the sake of gaming as an entertainment form and art form, very happy that they are back in the strongest position possible.

Nintendo will never be afraid to try completely new stuff that will turn gaming upside down, as they have done time and again, even with a couple of bumps along the way (e.g. Virtual Boy).

Hiroshi Yamauchi was a brilliant businessman, but when he was getting too old and a grumpy and things were starting to go downhill for Nintendo, he handed the wheel to Saturo Iwata, who for some reason had a godlike gift to see where gaming was going and how Nintendo could take the throne again.

What separates Nintendo from the other hardware makers is that they are at heart an entertainment company, and that will stay as the deciding factor in everything they do. It also helps a great deal that Saturo Iwata himself has a background as "program-all-night-long-just-give-me-more-coffee" games developer, I thinks he knows how to get the best out of their talent. For this I also believe Nintendo will stay strong even when Shigeru Miyamoto retires one day.

I'm happy that a $250 console is dominating the market and that the people have spoken and will NOT allow $600 to be the entry price into the videogame realm.

That and I <3 Nintendo.

What he said...... PS3 is powerful but $600 is just rediculus.  It's nice to have a new inovative control scheme.

Meh I liked the old Nintendo more (SNES/N64 [Even thoguh the controller was horrible])

Feels good especially since all Nintendo did was stick to the formula they know best. Create something innovating and not expected and you get something great. Even if during the N64 and GC years I may have primarily Sony (I still do) I have always respected and love Nintendo for doing the things they do. I can proudly say that I have owned every single Nintendo console except for the Wii which I plan to get later this year (yes the virtual boy included). I like it when Systems and companies are able to find success by being originally and creating and establshing franchises to be successful. (Nintendo= Mario and its reliance on its first party. Sony= for creating relationships with third parties just by making them WANT to develop on their platform because of the possibilites it holds. MS= well aside from the likes of Halo and bringing the PC experience to consoles I Dont like how they seem to refuse to create anything new and rely on trying to Buy out and destroy the competition by trying to Have a monopoly on the Market just like with Windows)

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Well it doesn't really matter to me too much. I had a 64 and gamecube and loved the games for em. I used to hate when my friends only had PS2's and would force me to play madden or whatever with the ps2 controller, but I got used to it and since the 360 and ps3 controller the same basically. THe layout the same, ps3 like exactly same in all shape and form.

This just means even if they have me play against htem on ps3 or 360 i can still kick their ass.

Otherwise I never really noticed that the other two systems Gamecube and 64 were the loosers. i had games I like coming out all the time and had the PC games I could play. There was a few RPG's I had wanted to play but that was it. Nice to see that now I can play them if coming to Wii.

Though i did buy dragonquest 8 and some other RPG's and fighters for the PS2 even though i didn't have one. So many epople had one it was easy enough to find a ps2 to play on. my roomates all had one.

The Return of the King

Nintendo has always been a trailblazer of our industry, and its cool to see them claim the top spot. I wonder if history will paint Wii in a similar light as the NES in the way the Wii may have helped avoid a stagnation of our industry.

Honestly thought, the thing that humors me is the true cinderella story the Wii has become.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

One of the reasons i am happy Nintendo is on top is because they are the only one of the big companies that has a vested interest is maintaining a healthy videogame industry, it's their bread and butter and it's all they've got.

If all videogames disappeared into nothingness tomorrow, Microsoft would continuing making operating systems, Sony would continue with their electronics and neither would care one ounce for the 200 million people who no longer had games to play.
