the issue is does one game become better because of higher sales, even consoles to some extent.

last gen i gamed more on xbox especially the tom clancy games, with the exception of pahntasy star onlne on gamecube, in fact i didnt even know how many consoles xbox sold untill i joined vg chartz early this year. it made no difference to me when i had my xbox.

so wii boys argument that they bring up everytime pisses me off.

yes its a sales site thats for sure, and its certainly interesting to watch sales come in, but for most its about the games not sales.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's not just Wii fanboys.

they don't feel like they have to since the system is selling so good

we have to there is nothing else to brag about ps360 still can't sell a mill in hw in a week

some wii owners are not into the quality of games the ps360 have they might actully feel that the high quality games on ps360 are nothing compared to the games that they like on the wii it's all about wat ur into even though u and i feel that wii games are not as good quality as ps3 games

Which would be good if this were IGN... being a sales site though, you should expect most threads to have to do with videogame sales... and for sales to be brought into most threads that aren't sales originally.

For example "look at these killzone 2 picks".  Well how do you think it will sell? is likely to come up at some point.

On a sales site... expect sales to be the dominant topic.

But to be fair this is a sales site meaning the main point of discussion should be well sales. Other gaming discussions should always be the secondary considering the theme.

But if you think about the psychology of it, people are going to talk about what they think is going the best to a product they like. PS3/360 gamers THINK that games is the main thing going on with their console so they'll use that as their bragging point. While Wii gamers THINK sale sis the main thing going for their console so that's their bragging point. Notice the keyword is think meaning its not true.

It's another example of well self-interest. Same reason why a game on Wii will sell 300,000 weekly and the only thing some people will talk about is a small percentage increase in a 360 or PS3 game with minimal legs. Or opposite as well. Or the quality of a Wii game is in question and all the Wii gamers go in there is say about how it will still probably make a profit.

All of these things are reasonable to be said but no one talks about the whole picture becuase not everything interests them. They talk about things that interest them which is good and bad. It's bad because selfish but good because it keeps ignorance, for the most part, out of the way.

Personally I wish people would practice both. Mainly when discussing sales, which is the main point of this site, that they discuss every aspect of it, not MGS4's slight weekly increases. But when discussing games they should probably discuss the ones that interest them or only speak respectfully of the ones they haven't played.


Overall all 3 consoles have sales worth debating about both good and bad. Also all 3 consoles have great and bad games worth talking about. That's the ultimate answer to this along with the psychological analysis that I am happy to provide.

If you use the Myers-Briggs Jung personality profile people are measured in 4 different areas and grouped into 16 different classifications. One of the areas that is measured is how social a person is, and they are classified as an introvert or an extrovert. I could be wrong but I suspect that "Hardcore" gamers are generally much more introverted than the general public, and they may be much more willing to devote 4 hours to sitting down and playing a game than most people are ... At the same time there are far more extorverts in the world and they may value much more social gaming experiences.

Now, a game like Mario Party 8 or Carnivale Games may be very poor quality as defined by a "Hardcore" gamer but to more extroverted gamers games like Metal Gear Solid or Assassin's Creed may be too anti-social to be particularly fun. The sales of these games reflects how well a game meets the requirements of a certain group of gamers.

That's actually a good point.  Truly modest people won't brag because they don't feel it a necessity.  Actually those that brag about something usually do it out of desperation to front a point.  Some times its justified but mostly it isn't and based out of self-interest.  I'd say most of the Wii sales bragging is justifed considering the numbers but some modesty would be nice.

I'd also say some of the Ps360 game bragging is justifed but modesty would be nice as well.  Those that obsessively do it though are self-conscious about the flaws which fuels the self-interested bragging which is inherently bad.  Personally I wish people would simply state their justified opinions about things while respecting others and carry on with a debate rather than acting like a marketing agent of a certain company.  I think peole should only do the latter if a game is being hyped up or hyped down with no justification.
