This is my favorite part about the PS3. Developers know they can not release shit on it, because people expect better from the system. I would like all games on all platforms to become exclusive on day. Meaning all third party game are made to spec for each console. It is the most expensive route so it won't happen. It does however yeild the best games when a dev makes a game taylord to one system. |
Sounds like the ol' Nintendo strategy. QUALITY over QUANTITY. |
Must.... resist... urge.. to. respond... to this... Sorry I can't, Thrillhouse have you seen the amount of crap that third parties have released and will be releasing on the Wii (and DS for that matter)? Ninjabread Man... I think that title says it all. Nintendo's first party stuff is usually great but when it comes to third parties it seems like Nintendo will allow anyone to release anything on their systems as long as it's not rated AO. |
The obvious flaw to that complaint is that, more games and a more diverse library = more consoles sold.
However . . .
Nintendo once saved the video game industry with their seal of quality (after the market was flooded with horrid crap and the bottom dropped out in 83). They decided, rightly at the time, that QUALITY was the most important aspect. Fortunately, they were the only game in town, so they could make those sort of calls. Unfortunately, that mindset bit them in the rear HARD. Remember, the N64 was released with TWO games, TWO! They were great games, but only two! As many previous posters have stated, today's market is driven by QUANTITY, which is why Sony dominated the last two gens.
Nintendo learned the lesson, and adapted. Sony, meanwhile, got so caught up with this inferiority complex (My system is bigger than yours!) with MS, that they shot themselves in the foot.
What I'm worried about is if the QUALITY of the QUANTITY of titles doesn't improve, or if the rapid influx of so called "casuals" leads to a bargain bin rush of "Bejeweled" and "Mah-Jong" type titles, cheap, crappy games, mass-produced and shoved down the pipeline, OR if the treadmill of sequels doesn't end, that we could see another fallout as we did with Atari in 83. Of course, I believe that Nintendo is far too shrewd of a company to allow that to happen, so we'll see.
