Forums - Sales - NA up, 1 million freaking Wiis!!!!!!!!!

A lot of hardcore gamers think it would be a shame if they buy One Wii one day because its visuals, graphics aren't good.
From this year, I didn't read any internet review.
To give only a 7-8/10 to games like Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit, I couldn't understand. Everybody here in my family enjoy those funny games. Yeah, it hasn't HD graphics or dolby 5.1+etc.. , there are pixels but people don't care anymore about that.
Same thing with DS, some of my friends here are enjoying Prof Layton here in Belgium. They're waiting for the second release.

Boom!

360 did pretty good as well.

I'll wait for more official confirmation (remember VGC's 10% margin of error means Wii sales might "only" have been 900k), but this is astounding.

What is the record for single region sales in one week? Anyone know?

I think someone gave a link from another site that had the same information (wii @ million+)

PS3 won't make 20 million by Jan 3rd 2009
It's tracking almost exactly the same, or slightly lower than this time last year and from last years figures we can see a 14% (75k) increase for the week before xmas followed by a 35% drop off (200k) for the week after xmas.

Even including the 3 days after 2009 starts, that will leave the PS3 on around 19.8 million. If you take out the 3 days of 2009 then it will be short by an estimated 400,000 units.

What recession?

the wii sells when their are games, no games, game droughts that last for months, economic crash, the damn thing is immune to all.

I don't understand it, it's the console with the least features, the least functionality, the worst graphics, crappy online, laggy controls and yet people buy it up...it defies logic, it makes me question these people...

Why don't you start questionning yourself? Casual market, Motion control and a lot of FUN games are your answers.

Rather low adoption of HDTV - if you have SD TV only you don't really care all that much about 720p graphics :)

Awesome, well-thought out post. I totally agree. Talked to a couple Wii owners and they said the same exact thing. Most play WiiSports, WiiPlay and WiiFit. That's it. They aren't interested in buying more games ATM. That is why the argument '3rd parties should make the Wii the lead platform' is insane. I have been saying this - and just want a simple answer. What's the demographic breakdown on Wii owners? It's gotten much more press than the rest of the consoles, offers a new - for most folks - way to control a game - and isn't hard to learn. It's a cool device that plays games in a unique way.

Shoot, I was showing off the Wii on Sunday to my son's friend's mom and dad. They were like 'We've heard about it and think it's awesome.'

It's an argument for another day, I guess.

Let me counter your anecdotal based argument with my own. I haven't bought a Wii game in months. Got a 360 for my birthday back in August, and am busy catching up on its library. However, the main reason I've not bought a Wii game is because nothing came out to interest me since... spring? Were the games there I'd buy them in a heartbeat, and due to my fanboyish (and cheap) nature, probably buy them over a 360 title (with a few exceptions). I have my eye on at least half a dozen Wii games for the start of 2009.

Now, as you point out, we don't know the true demo breakdown of the Wii ownership, and I'm not sure we'll ever get a good answer, as one household with one Wii often holds multiple demographics, and we don't know who's playing and who ain't. But simply based on the Wii's current user base, and what appears to be a general disgruntlement over Wii releases in 2008's back half, there has to be millions of users like me, just waiting to hand over money to anyone willing to publish a decent Wii game. Take that crowd, factor in the comparative ease and low cost with which Wii games can be made, and it simply makes more sense to toss the Wii more support.

Sorry but PS3 is officiallty dead last. #

Look at My sig. The gap will be 8 mill + before 09 starts. IT is also possible that the 360 hits 30 mill before PS3 hits 20 mill at this rate. :)

Wii is intense, DS is just a god.

I mentioned it in another thread.  The previous record was 960,847 by PS2 in Americas Christmas week of '02.  That was also the week it sold 1,761,665 WW.
