Awesome, well-thought out post. I totally agree. Talked to a couple Wii owners and they said the same exact thing. Most play WiiSports, WiiPlay and WiiFit. That's it. They aren't interested in buying more games ATM. That is why the argument '3rd parties should make the Wii the lead platform' is insane. I have been saying this - and just want a simple answer. What's the demographic breakdown on Wii owners? It's gotten much more press than the rest of the consoles, offers a new - for most folks - way to control a game - and isn't hard to learn. It's a cool device that plays games in a unique way.

Shoot, I was showing off the Wii on Sunday to my son's friend's mom and dad. They were like 'We've heard about it and think it's awesome.'

It's an argument for another day, I guess.

Let me counter your anecdotal based argument with my own. I haven't bought a Wii game in months. Got a 360 for my birthday back in August, and am busy catching up on its library. However, the main reason I've not bought a Wii game is because nothing came out to interest me since... spring? Were the games there I'd buy them in a heartbeat, and due to my fanboyish (and cheap) nature, probably buy them over a 360 title (with a few exceptions). I have my eye on at least half a dozen Wii games for the start of 2009.

Now, as you point out, we don't know the true demo breakdown of the Wii ownership, and I'm not sure we'll ever get a good answer, as one household with one Wii often holds multiple demographics, and we don't know who's playing and who ain't. But simply based on the Wii's current user base, and what appears to be a general disgruntlement over Wii releases in 2008's back half, there has to be millions of users like me, just waiting to hand over money to anyone willing to publish a decent Wii game. Take that crowd, factor in the comparative ease and low cost with which Wii games can be made, and it simply makes more sense to toss the Wii more support.
