Sony is now in the same position it cornered both Nintendo and Sega into. They should be able to leverage their experience to predict Microsoft's movements. |
So?
Even if Sony could properly predict every Microsoft move, what would that mean? They could the the bus coming just before it ran them over?
People have been saying, "when BD and PS3 become cheap." Well, newsflash: the PS3 is far too expensive to be sold as a BD player primarily right now. People will be paying $99 for BD players next Christmas, and chances are the PS3 will be $299 or higher. Even if BDs themselves become "cheap" (ie: $20 new releases, $5-$10 for year old releases like DVD), they won't be a driving factor for PS3s. Nor will they make fast progress surpassing the DVD market.
If the PS3 hits $299 by mid next year, sure, maybe it will sell 10 million. But Sony most likely won't be able to afford that as they'll be fighting for profitability.
