Forums - Sales Discussion - When will things turn around for the PS3

I'm betting pretty close to never at this point in time ...

Microsoft has (essentially) maintained their lead throughout the entire generation regardless of what Sony did, and at this point in time I think it is safe to say that Sony has very little left to do that can't be countered by Microsoft.

PS3 is fine. The real question is, when will Sony start turing a profit?

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Price cut

Problem is if Sony are losing/lost $3Billion on the PS3 in just 2 years will they drop the price and lose even more money? At a time when profits were down 76%? When the company shares have fallen to the lowest on record? (Fell from 60p to just under 13p), when they just had to sack 16000 people (5th of their workforce)? when they have had to sell off factories to cut costs? etc.. etc..

See the reality is they can't cut the cost without losing even more money. I don't think were be seeing a PS3 price cut for a long long time. Holidays 09 maybe at the earliest. Sony are not in business to keep fanboys happy they are in business to make money.

You can't be sure that it ever will happen - the longer it takes, the more and more of the ps2's userbase upgrades to one of the other systems.

And the vast majority of homes are "one console" homes so once a decision is made, they won't be buying another console this gen.

Sony has to get ahead in weekly ww sales by the end of 09. If not, the war is over for this round.

Sony had better hope GoW III and KZ2 rate great.

Depends what you mean by "turn it around".

Again - Sony's problem is that they are fighting MS - basically unlimited money.

The PS3 will (should?) do a lot better next year - but MS will be working on some killer blows, to keep the 360 momentum going... and make it REALLY hard for Sony to pull back any of the 360 gains.

We'll have a good idea when the next fiscal year starts around April '09.

 Whys that?

Cause then we see the numbers behind PS3. If the company is still loosing to much money or makes to little money the price cut may come later and be less. It all depens on how well Sony manage to reduce the costs.

The problem is that the golden days are over, PS2 was selling good in great times. But now Sony has problems, not just with gaming but in other division in a time when all the world is going bad. On top of that they have a expensive console that drained loads of money in developing and 3 billion dollars more just to sell.

Sony don't have the same playfield to lower price as MS do, MS can take a hit better then Sony.
