Forums - Sony - CNN Money-The PS3 is a Sinking Ship

madskillz said:
Fellow PS3 owners - defend all you want, but face reality. Sony - not the MSM or anyone else - were the fools who said 6 million would buy it without games. Sony was the one who said the BC was a core value in the PS brand. The current PS3 was pimped in order to win the HD format war. That's it. Sure, they thought about gaming, but the ads that I saw advertising the PS3 mentions Blu Ray first - and some mention games.

You can cut it, slice it any way you want - close your eyes and go to your happy place and tell yourself over and over and over again that it's just the dumb media writing stories that are just bad-bad-bad and bashing your beloved console. Take your worries, anxieties and rants to Starbucks and $4 bucks and get some coffee.

You shouldn't try and defend your console. You paid for it because you felt it was worth it. That's awesome, but realize, no matter how hard you budge, so folks will not feel the love you have for your console. Some see it as a glorified Blu Ray player. Some see it as a video game system, but a lot more see currently see it as an expensive machine that is on par - if not behind - a $199 console.

You can try your best to shove your view down folks' throats - ignore the financial statements and say 'It could never happen - the PS3 is here to stay - but like anything - Sony is awesome at orphaning underperforming devices/formats (Sony PS2 HD, BetaMax, ATRAC, Walkman MP3, Sony Connect music site).

It's not about gamers, fanboys or even haters - it's about keeping the investors happy. If they can't do that, they will listen when the investors either demand that Sony cut its losses and start fresh - and just revive the PS2.

It's about making money - and these articles are damning and will make investors question the direction of the PS brand. You may ignore them but believe you me - their investors are reading them and will ask some tough questions.

This. Point. End. Period.

Did someone a few comments up just say.. dare I say it.. that M$ owns CNN..? LMFAO. It just get's better and better..

No, Microsoft does NOT OWN CNN. Who the hell keeps this one going? Microsoft owns part of its competitor, MSNBC. Here, look at this: Ted Turner is the main owner of CNN.

Exactly, I just can't believe excuses went from "moneyhatting developers" to "moneyhatting something as huge as CNN."

how old are these @$$ nuggets who wrote this article?

have they even played a Ps3, or any game system

and who cares if sales are going bad, they still selling

Well yes, but it's selling far worse. Sales have to with everything. Worse sales, less third party support, less games, leading to worse sales. Vicious cycle.

XBOX 360.

The 360 is for the fact that you've went around in a circle and ended up where you started, second place.

:0

Sorry, I'm trying to change, but I had to do it.

Practice what you preach.

I'm trying.

Ohh, ooh, my turn my turn!

PS3 because it's going to be in PS3rd place!

  1. It's the most expensive console on the market, $150 - $200 more than its rivals. Even if you believe the video game industry is "recession-proof" (it isn't), a tanking economy makes consumers more price-conscious.
  2. The PS3's big bonus is its ability to double as a Blu-Ray player. Too bad no one seems to care about hi-def DVDs. The differences between Blu-Ray and DVD are hard to see on a TV less than 50".
  3. The PS3 just doesn't have any must-have titles exclusive to the console. "LittleBigPlanet" has generated decent buzz but isn't a game-changer, and neither is Sony's new virtual world "Home."

"Tell yourself the PS3 has superior graphics if it makes you feel better, but a $400 console with a mediocre game library simply cannot compete against an Xbox 360 priced at $200 in this economy."

OUCH!!!

1. Yea, its is espensive, sony knows that. Everyone does believe me, I bought mine at the 600 dollar price tag. Yet regardless of its huge price dissadvantage the PS3 was outselling the 360 for like a whole year worldwide. Yet CNN doesn't talk about that. The 360 didn't start outselling it again worldwide till the most recent price drop. Hmmmmm an exspensive console that can out sell cheaper competiton? Un heard of.

2.BluRay is growing faster then DVD was in the VHS days. What complete idiots who know nothing. BD movies are gaining massive market share every year. I believe they are at about 20-25 percent now or something? And You most definitely can tell the difference in the visuals, even on the tiniest of screens. You know why? It is becuase the smaller the tv, the closer we fucking sit to it so we can see what is going on better, so regardless of actual tv SIZE you are seeing about the same amount of screen and visuals.

3.No good games? Now I know they are talking out their ass when the PS3 has delivered the BEST games this year. With  MGS4, Socom, Valkyria Chronicles, Little Big Planet, and Resistance 2, as well as an army of MP games that appeared on the system it has plenty. Here are some statistics for you CNN, PS3 is has more games then the 360 did at the same point in it's life span. PS3 has Sold more then the 360 at its same time in life span. PS3 is finally starting to outstrip the 360 in visual and pure gaming quality with games such as LBP, R2, K2, GoWIII, HR, et all available now or soon next year. PS3 also has the strongest line up for 2009 as well.

That includes...

Infamous(you want sandbox? You like Superheros? Right here!)

Demon's Soul (You like WRPG style games? here ya go too)

Fat Princess (You like cartoony gore? surprise!)

Savage Moon (You wanna RTS the hell out of some Aliens? This is all ya need?)

God of War III (You got the bloodlust you say? Take this!)

DC Universe Online (YOu want an MMO? YOu got an MMO)

Ratchet Sequal (YOu said more ratchet? Ill give you more Ratchet)

Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves (Naughty who? Naughty Gods thats who)

Heavy Rain (You want graphics? Ill make your eyes bleed!)

Killzone 2 (YOu want gratuitous violence rapped in a shell of pure AWESOME? Voila)

White Knight Chronicles (You think SE is the only one that can make epic RPGs? TAKE THIS YOU NOOB!)

etc for all the ones I am forgeting.

PS3 has finally released HOME which regardless of what publications such as YOU are saying is quite popular with people vibing within it everytime I enter it.

CNN....you are full of shit.

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

Many people on this thread better hope things do not turn around.

If so, expect a shit storm and tons of crow eating. Be ready, because it has happened all too many times before.

360 was getting beaten last Holiday season and for 35+ straight weeks, but people kept saying "it will change". Now PS3 gets beaten this Holiday season and probably for a while after, yet it is all over now?

You've gotta love how that works.

Also, the fact people want doom for a company that has brought top notch gaming and expanded the gaming audience over the last 12+ years is just sad... fucking sad.
