Yes it will!! i believe that when a price drop hits it will sell much more than its current state. It will atleast sell on par with the 360 if not better

Little big planet is a game for everybody, trust me i have tried it out with a lot of non gamers and they all love it.

Two things. 1. Please explain how sony can afford a price cut. It's easy to explain how much they need one. But they can't afford one. 2. The PS3 HAS lots of AAA games, this has not helped the PS3 at all. PS3 NEEDS games for everybody. Having only AAA games is only going to bury Sony even deeper. Appealing only to the elite and hardcore is a part of how Sony has toppled it's own empire. Sony forgot who bought a PSX & PS2. http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=52464&page=1 The 360 has focused on both the hardcore and family fare in 2008, and this has paid off in a big way. Sony desperately needs the diversity of the software lineup of it's two successful and profitable consoles. |
Well I'm not sure if you know or not but I'm talking about a price cut for 09, Sony said themselves once they start making money off the console (and they said it should be in 2009) they'll do a price cut.
And for your second response, I only pay attention to the hardcore games so I can't really respond to that, I'm not sure if the PS3 has a good line up of casual games for 2009 or none at all I don't pay attention to that, hopefuly someone else will reply to that part of your response.

Ok Buzz/Singstar are games for everybody. LBP has appeal to a platformer/Mario crowd. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are on PS3 (and everything else) . But the problem is not that none exist, it's more like "How many games for everybody were on the PS2 in it's first 2 years? Vs The PS3?"
Look at the Wii's line up games for everybody (yes there is a lot of shovelware). But there are decent youth and adult games as well. Where were those titles last generation? On PS2. the previous Gen? On PSX. Some games were always multiplatform, but more were only on the PS. Why are many skipping the PS3?
A hardcore player may not see this as a big problem, but it is. Even DDR (made famous on PS) has skipped the PS3. 360 got 2, Wii got 2, PS3 got none. MONOPLOY skipped PS3. Monopoly has not skipped PS since the PSX. Monopoly skipped Nintendo, Xbox but NEVER PS (or PC). Because it wanted to appeal to the console of the masses. That's why the winning console always have the largest amount of shovelware on it. Not because it's good. Because it goes to the "console of the people".
At THIS POINT, the PS3 has the impression of not being for everyone. That may be right or wrong. Regardless, Sony needs to change that impression. Badly. AAA games are loved by all of us, but they cannot alone produce enough sales for survival or profitability.

XB GC GBA All follow this trend. Older consoles seem to as well, though the data isn't as reliable. PS2 is the only console I found that bucks the trend, as it recovers from the downward arc in 2005. But could it be that PS2 only recovered due to 360 shortages in '05, and Wii shortages in '06 and '07? Or perhaps from winning the console war?
With 20% fewer sales than last year, PS3 seems to be starting a downward arc - at least in the US. Do you think it will recover? Nov. 2007 / Nov 2008 = Differential |
I think it will recover somewhat. While I'm certain the PS3 has firmly entrenched itself in 3rd place this generation, I don't think it will end with the disasterously low marketshare it currently seems to be headed for (15%). PlayStation is still a big name, and the PS3 is a great system, it's real downfall at this point, is as everyone knows, it's price. Once that comes down, sales will pick up substantially. Because of the PS3's specs, it should age well, giving it a chance to rebound.
But I'm no Sony fanboy, let me make this clear: I expect the rebound to be relatively small. They'll only avoid a complete disaster. PS3 will be viable for developers to continue to develop on and Sony will make enough to go ahead and make a PS4. However, it will never leave 3rd place, and it will go into the next generation without the momentum it squandered this time.
The same question was asked when PS3 was being outsold by the GBA last year in NA.
we all know what happened later....
anyone who thinks the economic crisis is going to be over next year is crazy. it's definitely going to get worse before it gets better. companies are still just starting to cut back and if major sectors don't get their bail out packages that they are hoping for then you can expect there will be tons of lay offs.
if people aren't working then they're definitely not going to get their snot nosed kid an expensive console (and even $200 will be considered expensive... which makes me wonder if i should have pre-ordered the SF4 TE FightStick).
OT-ish: Sony has been doing progressively better year-over-year. Even now it's sales are pretty good... just not as good as the XBox360 and Wii.
I really don't know what to expect from next year's sales for the ps3. People say that entertainment is recession-proof, but there are cheaper alternatives to the expensive ps3.
