HELL! Why don't Microsoft and Nintendo go 3rd party too, imagine that,Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo games all on the same console. I mean it would be perfect.

It is really Microsoft that does not belong making hardware. Sony and Nintendo are good at it. But Microsoft has the best OS and best online experience through software.

That way, you could buy a Sony or Nintendo box, and still play Gears, Halo, Resistance, Drake, Mario and Zelda on one box where MS gets money from the Games, the OS, and Live, and Sony and Nintendo make money through games and hardware.

 

oh yes...i forgot how reliable the ps1 and ps2 were.....  it took them 3 tries and microsoft 1.

 

Technically we wont know until they release another console.

I like my 360, but it wouldn't be as cheap or as feature laden without the competition from Sony. The Wii may be the current market leader this generation but it appeals to a different segment of the market to Sony and MS, and it's with the latter two console manufacturers where the real competition is. I don't want to see one crushed by the other. If this generation ends with Sony and MS on equal market share it will be a good result as far as I'm concerned.

Microsoft isn't leaving until Sony does

Which is a pain in the ass for me, as someone who can't afford three consoles.

Also seriously Sony didn't make gaming into what it is today why would you say that.

sony (ps3, ps2 and psp) are doing very well.. ps3 in doing better that 360 considering that its been released 1 year (1 year and half in europe etc) after the 360 launch.

sony is playing his game, going straight headed with the knowledge that future will give its fruits.. microsoft is going insane to win the console war but, with not that fabolous results.. they still sell not that much more than ps3, and with ALL the best exclusive OUT!

when games like KILLZONE 2, GT5, God of War 3, White Knight Chronicles (and more) are out, they can even take the lead without many efford.. they've the possibility to gain userbase from all the zone (japan with GT5, FF13, WKC, FFV13..) (usa with GT5, Killzone..) Europe with (uncharted 2, GT5, God of war 3 etc)

Where's that damn Sony Fanboy calendar when you need it?

Lol, I can't really see how you thought this through...
LittleBigPlanet is selling fine, it's a new IP, people have a hard time explaining what it is etc.
And sure, multiplat would become cheaper if you count 360 and PC, but what about the Wii? And if Microsoft were to rule the crowd they are fighting with Sony over, competition would dissappear in that area, with Microsoft putting greater emphasis on the Wii crowd.
And sure, Microsoft has more vested in peoples living rooms, but why would Sony ever think "We have a perfectly fine media machine in peoples living rooms... Let's give it up". No. Way.
And Sony will most definetly have a greater challenge next generation, but I doubt that because Sony got their asses kicked this gen, they are going to give up and not take the lessons learned from this gen to the next.
"Deep pockets may be required from here on". How much do you suppose Sony has spend on the PS4 so far? Too much to let it go I say.
