The 80GB PS3 actually does only cost about $300 to make (remember it has 65nm everything, and Blu-Ray has dropped dramatically in price -- it was at $400 before the 65/65 switch and blu-ray drops), but the Nintendo cost-to-make number seems way too high.

:-O

Some article history for all those who haven't been keeping track:

(65nm GPU rumors, that now have been proven to be true -- I would dig articles confirming, but I'm tired of it)

...Sony isn't dumb, nor are they losing money on hardware any longer, I would wager.

umm didn't Nintendo make 1 billion in profit first Q1 this year? I think that's what I have read somewhere, it can't all come from DS.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Sony is still losing money per unit sold, certainly for the 400GB models. They would sell them cheaper if they weren't losing money, and they'd stop losing money in the division if they weren't losing money per unit sold. I'd guess, based on their financial results, that they're losing no less than $200 per 40GB unit sold.

Look at the fiscal results, people.  Nintendo is making a lot of money from their hardware.  Sony is losing a ton of money from their hardware.  These two things we know to be true -- you can't simply make money appear or disappear.  Not with publically traded stocks, anyway.

Sony is very obviously losing a lot per unit sold.  Very obviously.  If they weren't losing money per PS3 sold, then they'd be profitable because the PS2 is still very profitable and sells well and their games / licensing are profitable.

What 40GB models?  Wow are you out of touch.  Read some of those links I posted, then go dig for Blu-Ray player price drops since the "$400 cost-to-make" article from 10.5 months ago.

There is absolutely no way on earth Nintendo make only $6 from each Wii sold. Bullshit on this would be an understatement.

Those greedy bastards.

It was much needed! ^^

Old but it still makes me lol.

Actually, here's a more accurate one:

Has anyone made a reverse animation of this with a PS3 eating money?

I thought Nintendo was making much more than $6 for every Wii sold.

Nintendo still doomed?

They're obviously losing a lot of money on the cheapest model (which would be the biggest loss model) since their bottom line is so bad despite so many profitable areas of their entertainment division.  There's no way they're losing less than $200 per PS3 sold considering how bad their fiscal results are.

They're all estimates and they're all proven wrong.  10.5 months ago?  Look at recent fiscal results: huge losses.  "PS3 ate our money."

Where do you think all of the profits from the PS2 and from game licensing and BD licensing are going?
