By the standards set here, the Iphone is also doing better than the PS360. I mean damn, it's gotten an insane amount of casual content, it's probably killing the wii too. Just saying the hardcores are whiners that can't accept that casuals exist is a dumb ass straw man argument that hides the real issue; the complete lack of effort or interest in the wii as a platform for anything other that quick cashins and shovel ware. The Iphone is getting a ton of content too, but 500 different sudoku games isn't exactly quality or effort. Granted there are some cool ones like monkey ball, which we've all seen a hundred times, but maybe not the casuals right? It's all new to them.
Really, you can look at this one of two ways.
Option 1. The wii is competing with the HD consoles. Whenever Sony or Microsoft come out and say that they aren't competing with the wii, that they are targetting a different audience, they get lambasted by Wii fans that say they are just making excuses for having their asses handed to them. So let's assume that the wii is in direct competition for the same market as the HD consoles. It's library this quarter (and for much of the year) has trailed demonstrably...terribly if trying to compete for the same consumers. Owners of HD consoles have not had reason to be jealous. Do not argue this. Reggie the super optimist who is paid to blow smoke up your ass admits that third parties are putting all their effort onto the HD consoles. Nintendo is only one company and can't support the console themselves.
Or option 2. The Wii isn't competing with the HD consoles. A safe retreat to higher ground, and it's the spoiled hardcore gamers fault for not "getting it". Problem is, this is still a dumb ass argument. I have no problems with accessible (or casual as some call it) games. Look at my library, I have wiiplay, wii fit, boom blox, MySims, my wife and I actually used the co-op mode for Super Mario Galaxy. Accessibility is fine...but quick cheap cashins and shovelware crap isn't. I don't support "Game Party" or anything that replaces the letter "s" with a "z" at the end of a sentence. Nobody is going to argue the success of such games, but people will argue that these games are crap. Again casual doesn't equate crap, games with a budget of 200k and a six month development time that rely on the ignorance of the consumer equates crap. And the wii this quarter (and for much of the year) has had an abundance of crap and an extremely modest handful of gems casual or otherwise. That isn't a whiny hardcore mentality that wants focus on me, me, me as some of you have so condescendingly posited, it's a matter of wanting something of even remote quality. Sorry I'm not ignorant to buy "game party 2" this holiday season.
You can go ahead and make a game list of anything remotely quality that has been released in this past quarter, but don't. Seriously, we don't need to go down that road. Nobody is going to care about Mushroom Men.
