It's ironic.
Back in Febuary, I got banned for 2 weeks because I was "flaming" someone over the issue of the possibility of a 120gb hard drive coming out on an HDMI unit. Everyone was so against the idea, and I basically responded stating they were dumb, and didn't want to recognize that MS was going to do it.
After the ban lifted, I was vindicated because within 4 weeks, the Elite was announced, to my exact specs.
Either way, I already submitted my 2 cents and made it civil as Mr Killemgood. I was just trying to get them to understand that NPD has a monopoly on the info - regardless if you do or don't agree with the data, atleast it's trying to spur on more/better development in the software tracking market.
IMO, this is the biggest issue not only with VGC, but the market. In movies, the tracking firms provide DAILY numbers and tracking for hundreds of movies. They also provide nearly-weekly numbers for international movies, and this information is pay-for by the firms, but cheap enough form BOM to buy, as well as The Numbers, HSX, and others to purchase.
Then we have NPD. They release monthly numbers that cost tens of thousands of dollars to buy the full monthly reports, and try to screw ioi and others out of competiton. Its absolutely atricoius whats going on.
I agree with NeoGAF that ioi's numbers are inaccurate, many steps of the way. But who really cares? It's 1 man vs. 1,000 employees. Of course your going to be off. But what ioi has done is amazing. It's gone from a backyard project to something that's got NPD worried - in just a year. Thats why I fully support VGC by doing the prediction league, moderating, and whatever else I can. Simply put, ioi doesn't have the be-all accuracy, but he has the be-all end-all suppository of information that NPD and even Famitsu and MC cannot match.
And ultimately, with the way the fact that ioi is litterally the only public/free voice in a $10b a year market is amazing. I just wish I woulda done it before he did, as I searched the net for years before realizing Famitsu, MC, and NeoGAF Sales Age existed.
