Forums - Sales Discussion - Critical Xmas for the Xbox360 ???

The critical time for the 360 will be 2008 after all the Halo hype has died down, because the PS3 and Wii seem to have better lineups.

Based on...?

The 360 will have Fable 2, Alan Wake, Cry On, Resident Evil 5, Halo Wars, Infinite Undiscovery, GTAIV Episodes 1 and 2, Fallout 3, Too Human, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Silent Hill 5, Banjo Kazooie 3, Blue Dragon 2, Darksiders, Tom Clancy's Endway, Ninja Gaiden 2, Prototype, The Last Remnany, Soul Calibur 4, and dozens of other good games (including a MMORPG from Mistwaker and a MMORPG being published by Microsoft Game Studies and set in the Marvel Universe)...  Could you list some of the big games coming for the Wii other than Mario Kart and Wii Fit?  As for the PS3 it shares some of the same games but the 360 still has a lot of good exclusive software.

yeah based on what, one more time MS didn't communicate on 2008 yet... so it's odd to say that now... and the actual line up is already appealling.... PS3 and WII has good games... but we can't really judge XB yet.... and even if we do, what we know is already interesting...

me I see a perfect strategy from MS unfolding like a poker round, flop E3 check (they did, and people got pissed off, like in poker), turn LGC (raise, couple off announcement on the already known projects but of which we don't know anything yet and presentation of what we know in detail about 2008), river TGS (all in from MS, price drop, bundles, exclusive aquisitions, new licences)

and well if they don't they are dead for that generation if they do they could change the face of the video game industry on the long run if they keep it that way...

Based on reality thats what, like you said plenty of those you mentiond are multi platform.

now throw that up agianst.

Infamous
Metall Gear Solid 4
Killzone2
White Night Story
LittleBigPalnet
Gran Turismo 5
Resistance 2
Socom 4
Final Fantasy 13
Heavy Rain
The Agency
Getaway
L.A. noire

I have to admit, of those two line-ups, the 360's is significantly more interesting.

PS3: 5.51m/51w, avg 108,039/w (up 239)
360: 12.93m/102w, avg 126,764/w (up 625), leads PS3 by 7.42m (up 70k), avg lead 18,725/w (up 386)
Wii: 13.52m/51w, avg 265,098/w (dn 1,102), leads PS3 by 8.01m (up 90k), avg lead 157,059/w (dn 1,341)

If 360 sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass 360 by...
01/08: (008w) +875.8%, 04/08: (021w) +344.4%, 07/08: (034w) +219.3%, 10/08: (047w) +163.5%
01/09: (060w) +131.8%, 04/09: (073w) +111.4%, 07/09: (085w) +098.1%, 10/09: (099w) +086.7%
If Wii sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass Wii by...
01/08: (008w) +1072.%, 04/08: (021w) +498.4%, 07/08: (034w) +363.4%, 10/08: (047w) +303.1%
01/09: (060w) +269.0%, 04/09: (073w) +246.9%, 07/09: (085w) +232.6%, 10/09: (099w) +220.3%
If PS2 sales freeze, Wii sales increases needed to pass PS2 (as of Mar07, 108.4m) by...
2008: (008w) +4373.8%, 2009: (060w) +0496.5%, 2010: (112w) +0219.6%, 2011: (165w) +0116.9%
2012: (217w) +0064.9%, 2013: (269w) +0033.1%, 2014: (321w) +0011.5%, 2015: (376w) -0004.8%
At +0% it will pass it in 358w, the week ending September 19th, 2014, at an age of 409w (7y44w).
Current age of PS2: 7y37w.

Last update: Week ending November 3, 2007

You know what after reading the posts and looking at 2008 releases, I don't think Chrismas 07 or 08 is the most crucial.  I changed my mind.

The Xbox360 fate will be decided in the next 12 weeks. Two Worlds and Eternal Sonata (a good JRPG) real soon, Halo 3, and then GTA IV and Guitar Hero III at the end. If these games don't significantly revitalize the 360 sales I don't see unknown franchises like Bioshock or Mass Effect (or $200 Rock Band) doing anything dramatic.

It really comes down to Halo 3 and if $50 makes a difference, do people own a 360 and are they waiting or are people going to buy a 360 for Halo 3 later.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Final Fantasy 13

I thought that game was only around 13% complete and isn't coming until 2009...?  Also I predict that the horrible sales of third party software on the PS3 this year and it's truly disappointing sales since it's introduction will result in less third party support and even less multi-platform games for it next year.  You can't expect to have the best of third party software when your system's third party software sales are in the toilet.

You also said your leaving yet your back, so i'll take your predicting the future as meaningless.  You do know in 2007 PS3 has out sold 360 ???  360 is a failure in half the markets its in.

Ps3 has the best line up next year, hell for months you all agreed but before it was "Ps3 wont survive long enough for their kick ass 08 line up to help"  Well PS3 has survide just fine, so time to pretand like they dont have the line up anymore.

You do know Sony/Rockstar just announced another PS3 exclusive ? NCsoft will make mmos ONLY for PS3.  Epic is tuning the UR3 engine to take make bette ruse of the cell.

Heavy Rain is another Exclusive, sorry no 360 version.

In 2007, PS3 had the European launch where it sold almost one million consoles. Sales dropped by 80% after that. No wonder that spike was enough to make it overcome the 360 sales in 2007. In overall sales, the PS3 is still far from the 360 though...

Heck, not even the Wii caught the 360 yet, and you're already making a PS3 vs 360 party?

hum if I recall halo was an unknown licence too :) if marketed correctly those two new licence could do the same or at least good....

@killzone 3

you have Fable 2, Banjo-Kazoie 3, warhound, cry on, dance dance revolution universe 2,huxley, infinite undiscovery, DOA5, halo project (hte peter jackson stuff), halo wars, Dark mesahia, too huma, alan wake, GOW 2, America's army, culdcept saga

all exclusive 360 and ONE MORE TIME MS didn't communicate yet on 2008 this year... so we don't know any new things than what we already knew..... where Sony already revealed a big chunk wich is still small.....

i'm not saying one is better than the other for next year.... but you can't say yet either which one is.... especially depending on the results of this year of both consoles, the devs might change their minds on exclu... on one or the other console...

For me there is something wrong with the Xbox360 line-up:

game like Mass Effect or Bioshock (the 2 games will receive 9/10 from reviewer I think) are too much PC targeted.
I m not sure it will move average console player.
I think Halo3 / GTA4 can do it better.

I think game like HeavenlySword / Unchartred / Ratchet are REALLY more console targeted even if "hardcore gamer" will prefer ME/BS.

For me the big point on Sony to counter Microsoft :
- big price cut to make people buy their console as quick as possible
- big announcement for 2008 to make PS2 owner wait and NOT buy Xbox360 :

"I have 350$, I want to buy a console to play GTA4 or PES2008, the only console that I can buy to play these games : Xbox360, I buy it so !!!"

If Sony succeed to keep the focus on their exclusivity coming in 2008, people may think :

"hey I will wait to buy a PS3 when she will be cheaper, no Xbox360 for me"

Time to Work !
