I am changing my outlook again.
With the lack of GTAIV on both consoles I am extremely worried now for both PS3 and XBox 360. Not so much against each other, but now the core-casual market (not the hardcore) has only Halo3 and the Playstation Brand to make their decisions on. We all can list 10 games or more we think are going to be great, but will Billy Wal-Mart Shopper see Halo 3 on a $349-99 console or a $500 PS be worth it. Will Madden have an effect, is it worth it to the average game consumer to spend that much for a better looking Madden?
These are, by far, the games that they buy most, and one of them just got taken out of the equation in the middle of the most important pre-holiday/holiday season of the generation.
Franchise iterations people buy most for sale on a current/next gen console by 12/31/07 (I am talking 2mil+ games by the end of the year):
Halo - Halo3 (360)
The Sims - MySims (Wii)
Mario - Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros., Strikers(Wii)
Zelda - Twilight Princess (Wii)
Metroid Prime 3 (Wii)
Anime Games (Wii)
Tom Clancy Games - A crapload for 360, many for PS3
Gears of War (360)
Forza 2 (360)
CoD4 (3600, PS3)
FPS (360)
(I left pokemon battle rev. off because it hasn't been well recieved.)
Potential Sellers:
Heavenly Sword (PS3)
Lair (PS3)
Warhawk (PS3)
Bioshock... you get the point.
But with out GTAIV will they buy into next gen this year? I think some will, but this may really hurt the entire holiday for PS3 and 360.
GTAIV is a system seller, not for a specific console but it would have gotten people off the fence and into this gen. Madden and Halo3 are all that is left to move the mass of secondary adopters this year. That being said, I think the lack of GTAIV will hurt Sony more, but they are happy selling Bluray players until next holiday (according to their PR).
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
